the ontarioquebec division of the cwna f f t j house numbering an advantage decision of town council to allocate a number to each house in georgetown will be helpful to both the householder and to a var- ety of people who may wish to contact him the fire chief has urge3 that this be done on several occasions for it would some times be an aid to speed when seconds count sometimes a person reporting a fire does not give explicit directions and valuable minutes are lost before the fire engine arrives at the proper location any firm which makes deliveries will also be benefited by havfng a specific number to locate and this will hold true for friends from other towns who must ask directions to a residence as the mayor says the success of the program will depend on a good percentage of people installing a proper numbered sign on their house after the numbers have been as signed the cost will not be large for an in dividual and no doubt some enterprising mer chants will put in a stock when the time ar rives street changes suggested at a time when house numbering is in the air we might suggest that renaming of three georgetown streets would also be an advantage once again it is the fire brigade which would be most helped we refer to victoria which is used for two streets in diffrent parts of town chapel street east and west which are really two distinct streets and maple avenue east and west the planning stage begins it s surprising how fast things happen once a decision is made we refer to the high school addition which only a clream a few months ago has now reached the point of a preliminary sketch which it is anticipated will have school board and education department okay in another weeks time while the addition is not the complete new school which was first talked about it is something which will be a real asset to the town and more important a decided improve ment in educational facilities which have been the latter is technically the same street but it is separated by several blocks of undeveloped land in between on at least one occasion the fire brigade called to victoria street toured tihe wrong street for some time until they realized they should have been on a different victoria one bad fire loss due to such a mix up would be a high price to pay for the minor costs invol ved in making a street name change somewhat behind those in towns of similar and smaller size tne addition will provide a new science room a library classroom and a home econ omics room plus an extra standard classroom principal s office teacher s room and lavator les will also be contained in it the design has been made so that some future day when the department of education will approve a gym auditorium ft can economically be ad ded as can extra classrooms if
