of the old town hall but in the meantime a tender for the purchase of the hall has been received along with an dnitial payment of 1000 00 coun cil decided to immediately call for tenders for the purchase of the ihall and the property appertaining thereto witholding the name and ftf thf t unt all have been received at mondays council meeting council also purchased a lot on guelph street the property of mrs j p reid for the amount of 1 000 and plans and specifications will be ready by the middle of april so that tenders for the erec tlon of the new hall may be called it is expected that clearing of the lot will begin at once town auditor ha lever vvas present at monday s meeting to present the 1952 auditor s report he said the town was in an excel lent financial condition and that the debenture debt was only at a third of the towns borrowing ipow er while he did not advocate in creasing the debenture debt he said the town was sound financial ly the report showed a surplus of 14 000 with back taxes amount ing to 18 000 he hoped these would be cleared up the end of the year a tender was received for the collection of gaibage in town but as council had not called for ten ders it was not opened and the matter turned over to the finance committee for consideration a donation of 25 00 was made to the canadian legion towards their 25th anniversary celebrations and the town will place a message in their official programme mr william mcnally of mcnally construction addressed council about having a road and water sup plied to a subdivision in the park district he had not yet purchased the property a contikwatlon of joseph street on the mcdonald and swackhamer properties but wished councils feelings before doing so council agreed to do this upon ap proval of the department of plan ning and development sewers run through this property at the pre sent time mr mcnally plans to erect ten homes on this property this summer applications will be received by the town clerk for a water meter reader initiatory degree for eight new oddfellows on the past two mondays the inltatory degree was conferred on a number of candidates at orion oddfellows lodge charles hill 2nd herb hancock were the candidates on monday and a week ago monday candidates were john davidson edward arn old herman mclellan john mac donald gilbert preston and george johnson after the degree employed there with national motor supplies he went overseas in the first war with the 164th battalion he was injured early in the war in an ex plosion in hamilton when a hand grenade being
