morning at st johns united church rev john m smith continued his meditation on the subject suggested by the emblem and scripture verse of the memor ial windows for this week the emblem was the sheaf of wheat and the verse 1 am the bread of life mr smith said there is a very large percentage of men wo men and children in the world who barely get sufficient food to keep life together who are con stantly undernourished and so even the humble lifegiving bread is something very real and import ant to them with very many of them it is so difficult to get that almost all the effort of their lives is used in obtaining it even in our land of plenty there arc many who through unfortunate circum stances are underfed but many kindly efforts are being made to provide for these but even in our goodly land where food is plentiful there are many people who seek for nothing more than the satisfying of their bodily needs and cravings this is living on a low plane many oth ers add to this the cultivation of their intellect the feeding of their minds and so grow physically and mentally often using much of their life and effort for the benefit of others that is a much higher plane of living then there are many others who recognize that there is another sphere of life higher still in which we can par take the spiritual realm which needs to be fed and cultivated just as does the physical and mental and in which we may easily starve even with its food all around us it was this realm which jesus was meaning when he said i am the bread of life the abundant life which he came to bring to us foods for all three types of life are the gift of god placed here for our use if we will accept themlike any other gift and be willing to go out of our way if need be to receive them our spiritual food like our bodily and mental food must not only be accepted and sought after but be assimilated into our very being and be taken every day become a habit of our dally living as is that of taking food if it is to make our souls grow we can gel our daily supply from the reading of gods word and medl- r tating on the teachings of jesus inten too like bur muscles and minds our spiritual being must be used an exercised if it is to dev elop as it should and the best development of our spiritual life like any other part of us has been found to be when we use our tal ents for others for the uplifting of life through the nurturing of all mother is not forgotten at s on mothers day sunday may 9th here are some practical gift suggestions for her hosiery gloves blouses lingerie handbags
