the georgetown herald ten pages georgetown ont wednesday may 13th 1953 ten pages what council did on monday may 11th instructed the town foremanl to turn the water on at the house recv ently erected by miss keyes on john street the erection of this house had caused considerable controversy by both residents of the district and some council members as it- had been felt the house did not measure up to the standards jet by the buil ding bylaw at a previous meet ing council held up water connec tions until the matter had been further aired miss keyes was present at mon days meeting and said she felt that she had lived up to the bylaw and that when her house was completed felt sure it wpuld be a credit to the property council asked if the building inspector had seeiv plans before a permit was issued and miss keyes said he had mr adams confirmed this and when asked if he thought the building would have a value as required in the bylaw answered in the affirmative mayor armstrong said he had advice from two lawyers and that it was their opinion that council could do nothing as miss keyes had lived up to the bylaw and if the bylaw had loop holes it was too late to do anything councillor goodlet insisted that f plans for the completion of the building should be tabled as he did not think the present setup met the 5200 minimum as required by the bylaw councillor allen said the con struction of the building was not safe and that the house rested only on cement block piers which a good wind could blow over in my opinion mrs keyes has lived up to the bylaw as far as we can ascertain she has an applica tion and the only thing left lor council to do now is to back up the building inspector or get a new one said councillor mccilvray most councillors agreed that the building bylaw reeded its teeth sharpened up and the mayor agreed to set aside a right to go into the t bylaw and make any alterations or additions the meeting was called to discuss town insurance with the agents and their representatives but due to mr cowan being unable to come it was iput over until the may 25th meeting decided to have the old reservoir property at the foot of james street
