the financing of such a big venture takes some tactf ulness the average pupil is able and will ing to work for what he or she wants but the question is where to get work there are plenty of jobs if a person can find them but doing it by yourself is a big job the student saving for a university education has a tough row to hoe if he cannot find a suitable job in the summer to build up bis finances if there was a committee or board made up of students and members of the town council or others and a representative of the major in dustries in town who could find and ararnge summer jobs for stud ents wishing to go on to uni versity it would help greatly this board could choose jobs specially suited for certain students the prospective employer could contact this committee and doubtless the committee could find the student best suited for the job when stud ents had the money they would be more inclined to continue their ed ucation knowing that they had a good start on financing such an im portant venture this committee could probably place most of the students who wanted summer work as a committee contacts could be made all over the country where jobs could be found this com- mjtfee ontario for several years this year it is expected to be ser- ious in the georgian bay and eastern ontario areas in particular and osstbly in some areas farther north says prof k w goble provincial entomologist department of ento mology and zoology oac this type of caterpillar does not build a tent it will migrate from tree to tree often stripping the leaves from the broadleaved trees in an area this type will be pres ent in some of the applegrowing areas and in such areas it may be necessary to spray the fence rows as well as the orchards in order to prevent migration to the trees the eastern lent caterpillar on the oher hand does build a tent and will be quite plentiful in many sections of southern ontario this year the caterpillars hatch the end of april and by the middle of may small tents have been for med which will increase in size as the caterpillars grow and will be conspicuous by june this type will not migrate from tree to tree and will feed only within a yard or two of the tent returning to it each night this type will be found mostly on wild cherry apple hawthorne plum and to a lesser degree on other shade trees it does not attack the evergreens these tents will be unsightly al ong roadsides on neglected apple plum and cherry trees but are not likely to cause great damage in those places in which these caterpillars have been present for two or three years they may n6t be serious this year in places in which they were present for the first time last year they are likely to be present this year the para sites attacking these caterpillars usually lake two or three years to bring an infestation under control ornamental and shade trees and shrubs around the home may be protected from either type of cater pillar by spraying with orchard type equipment the nests of the eastern tent caterpillar may e de stroyed by cutting off the infested branches in the cvenini or burning them or by burning the tents in the evening by means of a torch for the foicsl tent caterpillar it is also advisable to spray trees and shrubs in an iici km to 300 foot around the aici to be protected as this type may miniate ddt lead or calcium arsenate may be used ddt and
