coronation georgetowns coronation day cel ebration will start on tuesday mor ning and last well into the even ing when a big display of fireworks will end the tribute to queen eliz abeth in the park most important part of the day will be a community church serv ice which local clergymen will con duct in knox church in the morn ing at eleven the order of service includes much or the original word ing of the ceremony as it will take place in westminster abbey with a narration describing the actual coronation ceremony participants in the parade will assemble at the high school grounds at 1 oclock and the parade will move off at 130 split second tim ing will be necessary for the lome scots band who will play a morn ing engagement in orangeville then bus to town to lead the jocal par ade it will be one of the biggest parades that georgetown has seen school children from the two town public schools cedarvale beaure gard stone srhool stewarttown nerval and glen williams will all march in groups each carrying small flags marching in uniform will be the scouts and cubs from town and norval the norval guides cgit and explorers the army will be well represented with a group from the lome scots regi ment high school cadets and leg ion wa members of the town council will also march the yell- low jackets motorcycle club will provide escorts and highlighting the parade will be a number of patriotic floats to date floats have been promised from the womens institute the iode alliance paper mills home and school association legion wa presbyterian church couples club and from a group of new canadians trucks are still avail able for any other groups who wish to participate by contacting general chairman dick licata the parade w ill proceed up the highway to the momanent down main street up church to charles and thence to the park to give children a chance to see the floats they will line up at the grandstand and the rest of the parade will cir cle the track before it is dismissed with three rousing cheers for the queen the st john ambulance association has volunteered to be present for the afternoon to render first aid if necessary parents are reminded that once the parade is dismissed they are responsible for their children various refreshment booths will be operated by such groups as the wi firemen legion and scout auxiliaries and the presbyterian church the rebekahs have taken en the job of catering tor the army each child will receive tickets en titling him to free pop and ice cream the balance of the afternoon ill be a sports day with a program of races arranged by the lions club attractive crests locally made by barber industries will be given as prizes lo those amassing a certain number of points wth ribbons to the three winners in each class another gift to the children are handsome coronation mugs also locally produced by mr and mrs jesse wyatt festivities will continue in the evening when the legion has ar ranged a garden party followed com pleted by septfnber 1st assessment commissioner jos gibbons addressed council regard ing county equalization figures and said that the assessors of the var ious municipalities the county as sessor and their advisor mr coombe had held a number of meetings in an attempt to allocate and equalize the county budget of 31968000 final approval would now have to come from county council if the new assessment figures are adop ted and on the same budget next year georgetown stands to save 1200 on the county rate george towns county rate for this year is 66058 per cent while next year if the plan is adopted would be 6 2240 per cent council passed a resolution auth orizing its county council members to obtain the services of solicitor harry willis if they deemed it rssary nccfssa frank cowan and jack webber of the general accident insurance co which firm handles the towns liability insurance addressed coun cil and advised the members that the town could expect a 3800 re duction in premiums this year mr cowan also pointed out a couple of clauses in the insurance act that he felt the council should take ad vantage of one being the towns liability for trucks and cars driven by other than regular own em ployees who might be helping with snow removal etc for a premium of 18 95 a year it was agreed this should be added also the fire mens rate of benefit was raised from 3000 to 4000 fred chapman president of the chamber of commerce asked coun cil to provide materials for the er ection of lavatories at the park in the event that the unions were in the same frame of mind and would donate their labour for the erection of same council gave verbal agreement to go along with the project up to an estimated 500 or 600 cost declared tuesday june 2nd coronation day a civic holiday in georgetown will ask the police to be on hand at all fires and direct traffic will ask the coupty engineer to build up the pavement in front ot arthur reeves home on main st south so that the water will flow to the catchbasin on the other side of the street instead of run ning int6 mr reeves property armstrong construction of bramp ton will supply oil for the streets and they were given a further con tract to resurface john street from the ninth line to victoria street with a low- cost pavement cost approximately 600 they were also engaged to lay sidewalk in town and will start at once in the most needed locations j davenport and r lorusso ask ed council to have the grass cut at the entrance to the park so that they might have a soccer field there this will be done and the
