those in the coronation parade these people will have some real stories to tell when they come home again but for most of us the celebration will be purely local in scope the day has been pro claimed a civic holiday and all business places will be closed the large industries we under stand will work as usual that day some of the smaller ones are closing for others it will be business as usual f there will certainly be a crowd in the park for all the schoolchildren from town and district will march in the parade there will be a good percentage of grownups as well and we donj think they will be disappointed for a number of original floats are being plan ned and there will be lots of colour with the band the regiment cadets and various organ izations marching in uniform it will be a day for georgetown to remember and with the committee in charge we hope for favourable weather pot pourri heres one for ripley the two young daughters of mr and mrs george kent prop rietors of fairview these days the reason the theatre is getting new seats installed which is good news for patrons too mrs c j buck has a souvenir of an other coronation which we hope she will use in a window display it is a small flag issued in 1 90 1 for the coronation of king edward vii pictures of the monarch and his queen and of thethen prince of wales and his wife later king george v and queen mary appear on the flag which is in a good state of preserva tion another coronation curio will be ap pearing in ernies radio window florist tom eason has gone to a lot of work to cre ate a crown in artificial to leather work he is on the mend again and told his father in a letter this week that the cast has been removed and he hopes to be back at work soon the ranks of veteran businessmen will be further reduced on monday when fred maveal takes over ownership of the white rose service station makes us feel like an oldtimer when we realize hat there are less than a dozen of georgetowns present businessmen who were here when we came first to town thirteen years ago driving around town on sunday we found so many new homes under construction that we deci ded next week to make a new roundup of all the new residences our queen is crowned and georgetown joins with all can ada in a fitting celebration of this historic day attend the solemn community church service join the afternoon festivities huge parade sports entertainment come to the garden party fireworks display let this be a day to remember acta- space contributed in the service of the community by john labatt limited hilltop lodge members of alliance staff assoc iation had dinner at hilltop lodge erin on saturday with a social ev ening following at which mr and mrs earl scott entertained with musical selections roy ward president of the asso ciation was chairman of the even ing last of memorial window sermons j d g last sunday at st johns united church was observed as whit sun day commemorating the day of pentecost the founding of the chris tian church the service also being the last in the new memorial windows ser ies it was fitting thai the emblem of one vestibule window should be the emblem of st john after whom the local church is named repres enting the local fellowship the emblem of the other vestibule win dow being that of the united church of canada representing a larger fellowship the story of pentecost is familiar with the first apostles of jesus 120 of them meeting in a closed room in jeru salem afraid tor their lives yet obeying the command of jesus to tarry in jerusalem until they were imbued with power from on high praying meditating ready and wai ling to receive the holy spirit into their lives then suddenly knowing that they had been given the pow er which jesus had promised them and were now unable to contain themselves and proclaimed jesus the risen saviour the messiah whom others had crucified so full of zeal were they so full of the power of the holy spnt that nothing could stop them and from that be ginning has come the christian church now spread to nearly ev- ciy land rev john m smith suggested that this wjs a good hime for selfex amination as a thurth and as indiv- ulualb lo make suic that we vore a worshipping church measuring up to our heril ge we may join in the sinning of nrnises listen to gods word read and meditated up on join in a prayer but with uiese we need the true spirit of woiship if we are to receive the power or the holy spirit into our lues and into the church it was no myth w ith these early fouow- trs of jesus it was real to them they knew they had received un usual tpower and so can it be with us if we fulfil the conditions then are wc a growing fellowship three thousand souls were added io the 12u when ihcy first went out telling the good news of the gospel and those have been added to daily un til about one third of the worlds population now claim allegiance to jesus christ are w e concerned about bringing others in probably we can tlaim lo be but are we doing our best- then are we i missionary church ovtrlooktng rat colour culture to bring the gospel to cverv land and also to have it known and practised thionghout our own land then to do we have the holy spirit with all the power it hives lo us making our efforts count and worthwhile right ly inspired motivated and direc ted we can hae if wc make our selves ready then from the other window let us remember that we also belong to a larger fellowship with all its privileges and responsibilities not only of the unhed church of can ada but of the church universal of every creed with the one saviour jesus christ one god let us re member that vr- belong also to the church celestii with those who have believed and have gone be fore a cloud of witnesses flowing from the first pentecost and the outpouring of the holy spirit it was of this church that jesus said the gates of hell shall not prevail hgnnst it isms without god may flourish for a time but can not ultimately triumph we individually carr help by our consecration to bring in that ulllmale trkimph of the church of christ mr smith told the boys and girts ns an illustration of the parable of the good samartan of a dog which the farmer noticed carrying bones to the back comer of his fields af ter n day or two he became cur ious so followed his dog and saw it drop a burn in an old- abuitdonect well he tooked an found that an other dog had fallen in and his own white rose products seiberling tires we specialize in vulcanizing brake bonding and tuneup general repairs to
