ontario it was more than a political meet- ing being the first time since con federation that a prime minister in office has visited halton mr c st laurent in his speech recog nized this and politicking was at a minimum as he spoke warmly of the greatness of canada particularly mentioning the rapid industrial growth of the torontohamiltoo area georgetown was quite prominent that day mr st and stewarttown will not be at this school next year all accommoda tion being needed for local chil dren musical selections were given by the junior choir report cards wece given to each pupil as they left wie auditorium after the closing exercises georgetowns oldest resident mrs anna k nielsen 98 died in acton on sunday in excellent health she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage last week during a visit in acton and passed peacefully away in her sleep imrs nielsen who would have been 99 this september had lived in georgetown for the past eleven years with her son am nielsen local chiropractor and her interest and activity in community affairs were remarkable for one of her years mr and mrs nielsen are in lud- ington michigan where the funer al is taking place today in the dan ish lutheran church a native of denmark mrs nielsen apent most of her married life in ludington where her husband died 24 years ago a daughter mrs frank a johnsonmives in merced califor nia and there are also three grand children and three greatgrandchil dren surviving says parking facilities should be public utility the meeting of georgetown chamber of commerce on june 18 took the form of a dinner meeting at the mcgibbon house with a no table guest l a buckley ontario representative of the canadian chamber president fred chapman intro duced mr buckley and asked him to give an informal talk and gener al suggestions suitable tor a small tow chamber of commerce mr buckley said that chamber work could be divided into fie phases civic improvement retail merchant activities industrial development agricultural relationships and tour ist trade he mentioned that most cham bers concentrate on one or more of these and seldom on all of them haling visited georgetown several times he said that parking facili ties are very important especially for the farming comrrtunity and should be considered as a public utility the same as water and hy dro he suggested that the c of c work closely with town council on a parking project and that it might be an idea to have a council member an ex ofticio member of the chamber a merchants division could be formed to promote special t shop ping days group advertising etc and there should be a small com mittee to speak and act for this group mr buckley said everything possible should be done to promote better understanding between far ming and business groups and rural and urban residents a question period followed and a vote of thanks was moved by joseph gibbons to mr buckley for his in formative talk faithfukhurch worker mrs charles coupland one of the most faithful work ers in st pauls anglican church norval mrs charles w coupland was buried in hillcrest cemetery on thursday after the funeral ser vice in the church seriously ill for several months mrs coupland died at her home near norval on tuesday the for mer mary jane glendinning she was born at norval the daughter of pioneer residents robert glendinning and mary noble mr and mrs coup- land farmed in the district since their marriage with the exception of a few years spent in the math- eson district in northern ontario mrs coupland devoted a great part of her life to church work she had been organist at st pauls and t a light in the sunday school for many years and was active in the various ladles organifttions she is survived by her husband three sons and a daughter rev ro bert coupland anglican rector at homings mills warwick and roy of norval and mary mrs j e maxwell wife of the norval ang lican rector tnere are two grand children mr maxwell was with pink carnation corsage stone school friends have strawberry social the last regular meeting of the stone school farm forum was at the end of march but the neigh bours and friends like a little get- together during the summer and so monday june 29th was a straw berry social held in the school- house fortytwo neighbours were present and a lively game of euchre enjoyed mrs harry marchington won the ladies prize and earl burt won over a tie with russill miller for the mens prize bowls of straw berries and other good things to eat were much enjoyed the flowering shrubs around the stone school were never prettier and it is a in tel beauty spot on the no 7 high way was thirty years windsor teacher in windsor on june 17 the death occurred of mirgaret ellen pooke 84 sister of mrs h l hutt of town except for a few short intervals she had been a resident of wind sor for more than sixty years and was a schoolteacher there for over thirty years since retiring she was still closely concerned with the ed ucational and cultural life of the city and was active in special activ ities necessary during two world wars she was a life member of bor den chapter iode and of the wms of 9t andrews presbyterian church she suffered from failing eyesight and of late years was quite blind but she was able to come to georgetown at just this time a year ago for what proved to be her last visit with her sister and family jean hutt of weston and dr fred hutt of ithaca ny were in wind sor for their aunts funeral on june 20th burial was in windsor grove cemetery oddfellows rebekahs visit home at earrie a grnup of fifty locsil oddfellows and rebekahs went to harrie by bus and private car on sunday to visit the home for elderly people which these lodges maintain there it was an educational trip to show members where funds allocated for this purpose are used the group touted the building and chatted with the 39 residents as well as distrib uting treats to them they later had supper on the lawn dolsons celebrate 25th anniversary mr and mr5 harold dolson charles street who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on sun day were guests at two dinner par ties in their honour at hilltop lodjjc erin sunday evening sisters and niec es of mrs dolson entertained and the following evening a group of friends had a similar party for them social personal out of town guests in town in which he was slightly injured and a guelph lady was taken to hospital with head injuries the accident occurred at ii 45 friday night cars driven by roy arthur rose toronto and roy s hammond fort william on sun day night mrs francis anthony green en tertained at a trousseau tea on june 22nd for her daughter betty whose marriage to kenneth m langdon took place friday evening show ers were given for the brideelect in the city by mrs a e smith and mrs h e parsons and mr and mrs e w binkley entertained at an afternoon party for mr langdon and miss green at their home in town mrs p e tyas the brides sister entertained the wedding par ty after the rehearsal and a group of mr langdon- friends held a stag party at the mlsslssauga golf and country club on monday june 29th held a court of revision to deal with revision in connection with local improvement charges for sew erage extensions heard an ajppcal from mrs a n cole in regards to charge for sew- er running along charity lane the complainant felt that this charge was unjust due to the fact that she had previously been required to hookup to a sewer at the rear of her property on back street th court was in sympathy and the charge was written off alterations in the size of three lots along the highway were also adjusted the dominion seed house ap pealed for a deferred payment on their sewer charge of 2835 until such time as their property might be subdivided but the court of re vision folt they had no jurisdiction in this matter the seed house has the option of appealing to a higher court at a council meeting following it was decided to paint the grand stand in the dark at a cost of 175 further sidewalk work will be held up until budget figures can be compared as the work so far has cost considerable and council does not want to overspend their bud get it is hoped that victoria street college view and victoria ave may yet come in for new sidewalk will lay new sidewalk beside the smith and stone plant on the north side of glen road this being done under local improvement with smith and stone paying their third this is being dpne to clear up a hazardous road condition as well as giving employees a place to walk will advertise for an attendant at the fire hall to answer telephone calls applicant to receive free ap artment water heat light and tele phone accepted the revised bid of par from nesbitt and thompson for de bentures issued for road construc tion last year but which jiave been held up in order to meet municipal board regulations also revised the bylaw having only the last deben ture callable at any time council went over the tax and water- rates arrears and a definite plan of action will be decided upon at the next meeting in order to col lect all arrears properties in ar woodstock thomas l leslie 85 was the old est man present and 22 monthold bobbie lindsay the youngest child mrs elizabeth shook mimico who is 87 was the oldest lady at the picnic mr and mrs cecil burrill bur- gessville were conveners for the day which saw 144 people attend some from as far as norwalk ohio mr and mrs douglas mr and mrs calvin aitken acton had the largest famfty present five
