have a job we wouldnt want to be a member of the town council in these days of expansion and change attending a meeting recently as a mere reporter our head was swimming when clos ing time came in the space of three hours such important subjects as an extension of ewing street a possible addition to the water- works system an extension of maple avenue major sidewalk repairs and a 263 house sub division had been discussed a few years back these were the dog days far a council reporter if one got half a people in the news the federal election has ceased to be news but we will still catch up with an item wmch should have been written a week ago it is always interesting to mention those running for office who have connections loc ally and this year there were several for instance bucko mcdonald whose hockey prowess was admired on georgetown ice when georgetown was in the playoffs for a couple of seasons was returned as liberal member for parrysound muskoka another liberal henry hosking whose wife is a sister of mrs calvin clark a former georgetown resident was returned in wellington south gordon graydon known equally well here as in his home riding got a thumping pot powrri vegetable oddities continue to pass across the herald counter these days thsi week we have siamese twin cucumbers brought by reg williams of the glen mr williams also brought us a bunch of rape seed which you will remember reading about some weeks ago the seed grown on the fuller farm is not common and in fact mr williams says he has talked to farmers who had never seen it growing not an oddity but a beautiful addition to the herald window is a gladioli from ed harris garden mr harris takes great pride in his glads and brought two of his choice blooms bobby dazzler and bud samp son for exhibit he also showed us a new bloom which he has named marlene stewart after canadas great golfer and recalls the time he named one variety greta garbo and sent a bouquet of them to the thenfamous movie star in case readers wonder why we print some wedding pictures and not oth ers we always try to mention a picture when we receive a wedding writeup perhaps some times this is forgotten so we remind all wed ding couples that we like to feature their pic tures in the herald as we use a new process known as plastics the only stipulation is that the picture must be the exact size to jdo reproduced as we cannot increase or diminish the size a double column such as those ap pearing in last weeks issue will usually be sup plied free of charge by a photographer in ex change for a credit line under the picture column of news out of a summer meeting you were lucky this time we had so much that we used a couple of the items last week and had two or three which had to wait until this issue one must certainly have great respect for nine men who give so much of their time in public service they and those who will follow them in years to come have big decis ions to make for georgetown is certainly des tined to grow whether we like it or not and someone must be at the helm to do the direct ing five mew teachers for school area 1 several new teachers have been hired in included winnifred stokes wom ens editor of the niagara falls review who a few years back was a frequent visitor in town with the late mr and mrs thomas hill and a former acton resident mr bishop who ran against hon lester pearson in algoma east people have been very cooperative this summer in submitting news of visits and vis itors and we are grateful for the herald can only be as good as the news thats in it a lady told us one day that she was particularly en joying the news this summer as there seems to be so many more personals please keep them coming particularly you newer residents whom we may not know so well personally it is an impossible job for one person to ade quately cover all the news without lots of help from readers a stately row of trees on the grounds are victims of a growing town in preparation for the new addition at the high school most of them are being uprooted this week sad but necessary and we hope the school board will remember to do some plant ing next year you dont grow trees in a day driving by terra cotta lodge on sunday nestled up in the hills we were amazed at all the work which has been done we know few details about the lodge but some enter prising person has erected several cabins cre ated a swimniing pool and provided several swings etc for the children also noted the many improvements at terra cotta inn which was featured in one of
