auxiliary has grown from an original mem bership of seventeen to over one hundred wives of first war vetrans being joined since 1045 by kin of men who served in the second world war arranged by a coroinittee headed by mrs thomas grieve the ban quet featured an address by mrs m richardson provincial president and highlight was presentation of a cheque for 200 to the branch which was received by legion president leslie clark a number of toasts included the queen proposed by mrs j kern shead the ladies auxiliary by lt col gordon cousens first president of the local b anch to deceased members of the w a by fred mc cartney and the legion by mrs william roncy with leslie clark repyling auxilnry president mrs alex taylor velc med members and guests musical entertainment included songs by mr and mrs charles day thomas warnes mrs james blair and mrs william hewitt with mrs mary morrow and kenneth gregory as pianists charter mem bers received 35 year badges and souvenirs presented to charter mem bers past presidents and visitors were attractive china novelties specially designed for the occasion by imr and mrs jesse wyatt of town mrs grieve who was president when the auxiliary was formed gave an interesting historical account as part of the program mrs b j greenawtay provincial president at that time was present to help organize the ladies and the first seventeen irembers included mrs grieve president mrs william roney vice president mrs c e stacey mrs hetuy shepherd mrs fred mccartney mrs j fields and mrs george alcott all still active in the organization mrs gordon cousens mrs j s fry and eight members now deceased mrs e e young secretary mrs j fry trea surer mrs f knight mrs m sta cey mrs r armstrong mrs james roney mrs elizabeth halpln and mrs ethel stokes first funds raised by the new group were 3 50 by raffle of a veg etable marrow donated by mrs grieve which paid for the neces sary books and stationery in the early days the men s organization had no means of raising money so the auxiliary paid the rent and bought coal throughout the years the ladles have purchased such equipment as dishes furniture and curtains and stove and pay a size able hydro bill four times a year particularly during the last war they went all out to provide com forts for men in service poppy day is another activity which gets full support from the auxiliary succeeding
