the ontario division of the cwjia r election time again december 3 comes time agafo for the an nual nomination meeting when ratepayers hear an account of the years municipal busi ness and nominees will offer themselves for public service on various elected bodies council school board and hydro commission at least two vacancies will occur on couiicil with public announcement by dep uty reeve petch and councillor goodlet that they do not intend to seek office again add ing the fact that an election must be held be cause of a vote to simplify the present system of electing all but school board members by general vote there could be an interesting public contest this year so often a municipal election dissolves into a sort of game with someone not want ing to cause an election and a shuffling of candidates behind the scenes so the town can be spared the trouble of voting this year there can be none of this for the election goes on regardless and it will be a pretty dull af fair unless there is more to it than a vote on a queustion to which yes can be the only an swer we hope that a number of citizens will consider running as council candidates partic ularly and we can even hope that more than the required three will contest the school board seats ejections dont have to be hot to be interesting there is some satisfaction for each councillor to know that he has been endorsed by a vote of ratepayers rather than going in by the acclamation route which is all too frequent and we are sure that any man or woman who is public spirited enough to want to serve his town is not so thinskinned that he will be bit ter if others prove more popular in the voting we might too put in our annual plug for a full house at the nomination meeting as stockholders in a quarter of a million dollar business surely we all should be interested in hearing how our money has been spent humility a great possession humility a modest sense of ones own significance as the dictionary puts it has been much in the news lately with the arthur godfrey story a page one event in the daily newspapers here at home the word strikes us as ap plying so truly to a leading citizen removed by death last wee w f bradley was one of those energetic men canada breeds who through initiative and business ability built a shoestring start into an internationally known concern which brought him somewhat church supplementing his active churchwork at st georges with generous financial gifts which were never ostentatious most of which were given quietly in the background and all designed to make the church a more beautiful and more fitting place of worship he will be sorely missed in the church and in the town at large where everyone knew him as bill successful men of the future would do well to
