the georgetown hefcaud wednealay evening nbv 29 1953 page high tales published by students of georgetown high school volume 2 o 21 wednesday evening nov 25th 1953 georgetown ontario fun and frolic at rugby dance friday the thirteenths misfor tunes must have been sleeping that evening because the high school rugby dance at the howard wrig- glesworth was very successful hay darby fix the record player it was difficult to get some dances started because of his sky ones but usually the floor was filled with good bad and indifferent dancers darby the record player fun was added to some dances with lit tle dance games such as switching partners bingo dances and having an odd couple going around cutting in by wacking one of the couple with a broom darby its brok en again acton was represented by the regular georgetown com mercial actonians and some of their friends darby the chap- erones mr lambert mr arm strong mr prouse miss parkin son and miss piercey were all very good sports and joined in the fun and dancing fix it darb after intermission in which pop and doughnuts were sold the main at tractions of the second half were the grand march and the schot- tische which mips parkinson accom panied by playing a fewively steps on the piano daaarb the toll of the midnight bell ended the festivities after singing the an them every one but the cleaners hustled out with smiles and some with remnants of donuts on their faces ps during the evening as you might have guessed darby had to continually go up on stage and fix the battered school record player so the dancing could continue editorial around this time each year the q6estlon comes up when are we getting our exams before christ mas or after this problem is same this year but maybe it will be solved soon if the examinations are held after christmas that means there will only be two sets of ex ams in the school year this idea seems to be not too popular with middle and upper school as it cre ates too much work and study for the exams the alternative to this is to hold three sets of exams which would make less work per exam for the students the idea has come to let the later school do as they please as far as examinations but to have the middle and upper school exams three times each year or one set before christmas if there are only two sets the amount of work to be done before each exam is tremendous and you feel snowed under whereas if it is spread out over three exams it doesnt seem so much work fifth form seems to be divided on the number of sets and fourth seems to be undecided but we think it the three a year set has great advantages over the two a year set for the students who take a great number of sub jects it seems they want the three a year set which would make it easier for them it is noped that those in charge will make their decision soon and we hope it will be for the three a year set cadet news views balunapao janice baker wins high school prize we with to an over abun dance of complaints first our principal doesnt approve of us mentioning miss parkinson in our report the way we look at it is shes a member of fifth form sec ondly my fellow students have complained of my english they say that the public gets a poor im pression of we looftx5th formers the school dance last friday was a great success but we ere told that the student council lost some money at the next ftance lets see some more first and second form ers there were a good number at the dance but there could have been more these dances are school affairs so come out everybody football is all through and i think everyone is over his bumps and bruises here and now id like to thank the cheer leaders for the work they did they didnt get full cooperation from the student body but they did a wonderful job several members of the two up per forms fdurth and fifth are after three sets of exams we dont care if low er and middle school try them but we think they are a necessity in upper school the way we think it would benefit us would be in the practice of writing the department exams at the end of the year it also would help us to study our work and break it up more evenly it would mean extra work for the teachers but if it hel ped one person pass each year it really would be worth it well this week as youve read there is no news just complaints and my own opinions hope i havent bored you too much see you in two weeks 7 ave atque vale nb the author of this zeal for exams was awol on friday after noon grade xi report welcome well for the few sur viving readers here is
