the person of howard laid law of norval ontario a keen interest in scientific agriculture plus practical experience gained on the home farm and in club work has helped him become the good dairy farmer he is today the latch is always out at peel lodge where he and his wife the former eijeen cunnington are now living with their little girls linda aged five and ruth two dairy ing and fruit fanning are the two main enterprises carried out on the 135 acre farm about four miles from brampton they have a herd of 25 to 30 cows the milk from which is shipped to toronto an apple orchard containingsome 1100 trees is owned in partnership with his father and brother born and raisedona dairy farm near brampton howarcthas always been keenly interested in dairy cat- jtl seven short courses at the on tario agricultural college helped to complete his education obtained at brampton high school he also attended the graham scientific breeding school at toledo ohio and then took i refresher course in artificial insemination at ovc as a result houard was one of the first farmers in peel county to be granted a certificate to practise ar- ificial insemination of dairy cattle at the age of 12 howard started his training as a member of calf and grain clubs during his club uork ht was awarded three schol arships by the west toronto kiw anis club his skill in judging won him a place on the intcrcounty judging team and in 1944 he was one of the ontario delegates to the 4h club congptfss in chicago fyom club work howard went on to join his local junior farmer club in streetsville after serving as president of the local club he was chosen as president of the county association in 1944 he was one of those who attended the meeting held in toronto v hen it was defi ed to uniteall lota clubs in a pro vincial organization following his election to the provincial executive howard succeeded gordon orr as president in 1945 that same year howard had the honour of representing canadian farm youth at the world youth conference in london england before returning home he went on a tour of young farmers clubs in england scotland and wales with a view to promoting exchange vis its between ontario juniors and british young farmers going forward into the senior farm organizations howard repre sented the junior farmers on the ontario federation of agriculture he has also served as junior dir ector on the brampton fair board and as president of streetsville fatt fair for two years active in all community affairs howard found time to take part in young people s work in the united church serving on the executive and also as president of their coun ty young people s society junior farmer efforts to make farm homes and surroundings look more attractive to town and coun try people alike are certainly worthwhile howard feels and he hopes the juniors will keep up the good work another project which he feels juniors could tackle is to provide active leadership in fire and accident prevention on farms as he looks forward to the tenth anniversary of the provincial as sociation howard would remind the juniors of the debt of gratitude they owe to all those in the depart ment of
