in the county finals in february ka ren norton who was 6th and sean warning were the other george town pupils in the contest in order to encourage tree plant ing on privately owned lands with in the county helton conservation committee at a well attended xneet ing last wednesday recommended to the committee on agriculture and reforestation of the county council that tney purchase a tree planting machine while the coun ty has acquired 1208 acres for re forestation purposes tt was the general feeling of the conservation committee members that on near ly every farm in the county there is an acre or more land not suitable for ullage purposes which should go back into trees inthese days of labour shortage on practically all farms the hard pressed farm operators hesitate to take on an ex tra job of hand planting even 1200 trees which is the number requir ed for one acre the machine rec ommended for purchase is one equipped with road bearings which permit its transportation behind a car truck or tractor such a mach ine with a three man crew can readily plant irons 6 to 10 acres per day it was the further recommenda tion of the committee that the county would furnish one man to go with trie machine and be re sponsible for its operation and that the charge for its use be a very nominal one similar action has already been taken in the counties of wellington waterloo dufterin huron brant
