this pap er students gjven liberties because of this outlet have taken it upon themselves to criticize not only staff tjut ground conditions class rooms and facilities your column has not been entirely uhlhout guijt although i be 1 iev you have a dual personality ijd note i had to correct this mr gilhooly spelled dual dnlj your judgment u not vhat it should be i think that the new bell system is the fir eat est thing since they in vented a salt shaker with no holes for people who do nbt like salt i am also in fapur of those lovely flower boxes at the entrance to the school and to m the idea of con true tins them from old unused coffins leemed very quaint the fact that the new ictiun of the school la of a different architecture from that of the old tt no caue for groans of disapproval in my mmd it is a iymbol that this learned building contains not only historical information but also prehistoric i believe our readers would also appreciate it if ou would refrain from casting unflattering remarks in the direction of the playing field just remrmbrr the spartans too re raided in mountainous tirrain any remark about the home econo mics class which contains even a hint of tare aim will go down in tny immk as jealous slander it is only proper that the girls should be taught what todo if the can opener should break down the fact thai the students make the school is unchallenged in my mind on a decent vist to the school the conduct of these same students was not at all what could be termed orderly at the sound of the last bell they charged into the hall and presented the wildest up rising since some yankie stepped on j dmrcup in the land of the south i rt nam njthan 1 urgol ilhoolj oil and coal furnaces installed sheet metal work bonded roofs 5 f peatson one of the limes when we see what the have been doing dur ing the past year it is at this time that the top tadel mre rewarded for their bard work and parents wear proud smiles whin they ne their sons as smart young soldiers the cadets will probably give us a de munstratiun of their ability as a precision squad in past ears au diences have been held in awe at the movements made by thiic f i lows without any commands other than blasts on a whistle this inter esting feature is repeated the second night so that everyone may sec it the second night of commence mint friday march 18 is set aside for academic awards these awards include bursar le and diplomas diplomas are presented to those passing from lower school trade 10 to those having passed their grade 12 thus retiring their junior ma night of this ars lommtncc- tmnt we will have as part of its programme not one not two but three plas the r nghsh teachers and students are already working diligently toward the production of these three plas miss iierce is directing a play again this year which will display the ability of our ant formers ac tors aid actresses i overheard a reading of this play and believe me our first formers are good rwally poodl two of these young artists arc shirley kendley and paul marshall miss parkinson is directing a play with her students acting now here is a treat for everyone do you re member donna dennett last year in the upper school play as bowery ijz well shes back again this ear as emma if you rolled off jour scats when donna did the ithumba last year you ii roll right out of he howard wriggles worth auditorium this car when donna or i should a kmma displas her talent two other participants in this com edy are iloh tracey our dancing feel and fingers a fourth former hob hooper from grade 10h has also been chosen both for his acting skill and his laugh they have begun practices and hy manvi the 17 and 18 they will be in perfect condition for presentation judy mccumber will take a role also she has recei ed owards for her speaking ability our principal and knglish teacher mr lumber is offering his time and effort again this year in the direc tion of the third and last play this play is quite different than usual it has a cast of no less than 15 and ct the main character speaks practical ly every second speech throughout this leading actress is a new stud ent at giis she is o brilliant per former in the person of myrna wil son of xi a but i wont say any more come and sec her then you will do the talking itemember don anderson as le ander mulberry or mr mix hes back again to cause ntill more hilarious laughter since this is a thriller dillcr murder fctorj you might become quite exasperated at sergeant duffys dons lack of con ccrn but if jou are smarter youll enjoy the obuous humour another example of ghs talent which should never be forgotten is the work dono behind scenes of the play the plays success is greatly due to the props and setting some of the atmospheres necessary are quite difficult to produce there is always a perfect job done no matter how complicated tho problems of set ting bceome the peoplo responsible arc very modest and arc sitting be hind tho wings working the lights cutising the wind snow or whatever is needed but few people know that thoy are there tho two boys who represent this backstage talent are gerald scott and don souther aj the prompter certainly has to have talent in this line and holds a groat responsibility look in your com mencement programme when you como to sco who does this part of the presentation for ono of georgetowns highlights of 1055 attend the giis commence- ment in march 3 editorial suggest high school devotional periods some public schools have an idea which the high school system could draw on in many of the public schools devotional classes are held for the upper grade this practice cotddvery well be continued on in to the lower grade of high school it is a good time in the students life to continue thesa devotional periods thcre periods would provide an ex cellent base tor thft devotions life of all students after all school is primarily to teach students and religion is something that needs teaching today a great deal we feel sure that the clergymen pf our town would be glad to co operate in this plan if it was put into operation the periods could be diwdd amongst the different churches and turn attout classes could be held each week this plan ha worked succussfully in many pub lic schools with v ry nils factory re sults there is no reason why the practice could not be continued on into the lower grades of high school to hilp make sounder cliarr thinking studrnts with a limited staff and crowded turn tabl which is the case this year this would le difficult but we hope it is considered for next ear council corner ust to think about rehruary 11th giis held its annual valentine dance the dame was very successful as many students dropped all
