member of one of the districts pion eer families minerva m llowson ruddell 07 wife of the late samuel k ruddell died at her residence 24 charlea street on saturday mrs ruddell had enjoyed excellent health until the past few months when her strength began to fall she loved to read and also excelled in knitting and needlework mrs rud dell contributed a great deal of her i handiwork to tha war effort of world war tj she was an ardent churchwor- ker both in the athgrove united church during her residence in that community and since moving to geor getown in 1033 in st johns united church she waa a life member of the womens missionary society mrs ruddell was born at hornby on may 25th 1837 the daughter of thomas faster llowson and isabella atkinson her grandparents were among the first settlers at hornby having emigrated from england in their youth and she waa born on her grandfathers farm lot 3 concession 7 hornby alter receiving her education at hornby public school the model school in milton and at jarvls colle giate in toronto mrs ruddell taught at athgrove school from 1878 to 1880 at that time school attendance had reached a peak of 00 pupils hornby and athgrove were thriving little communities then with a large saw mill providing employment for many in 1880 she was married to samuel k ruddell who predeceased her in 1028 they farmed in the athgrove community for many years mrs ruddell waa the last aurviving member of a family of 11 she leaves two sons edgar of toronto arthur of athgrove and three daughters florence mrs r 11 wright of geor getown ettelle mrs w p laldlaw of norvtl and olive of hamilton there are 10 grandchildren and 20 greatgrandchildren rev morgan mcfarlane conducted the funeral service at the mcclure fu neral home on monday pallbearers
