to extend the nha loan regulation to include older propertie e well teke the case of a couple who are in the market for e house once they have saved or borrowed a thousand dollar or so and providing of course they can com ply with the salary and age requirements they can become owner of a brand new house in a new sub park requires a caretaker impossibility of keeping the lavatory building in the park in good shape without more constant atten tion is shown tn recent reports at a town council meet ing of vandalism which did considerable damage to the building it i discouraging to know that the efforts of the chamber of commerce and the council in erecting a decent building and providing facilities for large gath ering in the park have been hampered by foolish damage which will cost money and time to repair it points to the necessity of having proper care- taking at the park if not fulltime at least parttime if our park is to be the beauty spot which it can and thou id be pot pourri weve made ome mistakes in our day as editor but never before got babies mixed up we hasten to correct a birth notice of last week in which we presen ted a new daughler to dr and mrs hamish raffin of guelph instead of the proper son the baby is going to be real canadian too for he has been given his fathers name but in the english version james the rattans wore residents here before moving to guelph last summer when his practice wa taken over by a friend dr alistair macintosh dr and mrs macin tosh and family who have lived in an apartment at the home of mrs j arnott early have recently moved into a new home on shelley st in the sunbeam heights district sometimes people change their mind last week it was reported that arthur herbert was miss ing at the lome scot summer camp for the first time in fifty years subsequent to chatting with mr her bert he changed hi mind and was once more on hand division but uppoing they would prefer to settle in one of the older parts of town and can as the case often is find a larger house or a larger lot which will cost no more than the new one the owner of the older house will ell but want more cath not wishing to finance the sale himself over a long period the average couple have little chance of borrow ing from the bank and unless they can arrange a mort gage privately the down payment is beyond their means to parties suffer in the transaction the home owner who can find no ready tale for his prop erty and the prospective buyer who cannot buy what would suit him better if the federal government it prepared to gamble by lending money to people buying property there is no reason to restrict this exclusively to new houses certain standards could be set for older home and nha benefits extended to include these as well georgetown park has one of the mo beautiful natural settings that could be devised for a public place it is kept in reaionably good shape by the town works staff but the limited time available does not provide the care which it should have the mem orial pylon erected to commemorate the fall fair cen tennial is hardly a ihing of beauty standing m a sot ting of weeds and dead grass the grandstand is lit tered and dirty and the entire parks grounds are often tittered with various debris which permanent caretak- ing could keep cleared up as more facilities like the lavatory are added to the park there are more things to take care of and more things to be wrecked if there is not someone there to take care of them at niagara with the brass band to complete a perfect half century of attendance glimpse of the future can be seen at the south end of main street where what will eventually be the connecting link between the two maple avenues has been roughed out there are no immediate plans to complete this road at pres ent but as nc water lines were being laid town of ficial decided to place them so that they would not have to be moved at a later date and the road has been partially filled in and i clearly visible from main street in the same district the landfill method of garbage disposal i being used daily with each day supply of refuse compacted and covered over by nightfall a large
