which organizations had been invited to tend rprrtfrnttivds endorsement of the pool was one hundred per cent and a scheme of payroll deductions modelled on successful campaign in napanee seems almost a cer tainty the meeting was agreed that only a pledge cam paign by which large number of people will contri bote small amounts weekly over a long period will put the 50000 swimming pool fund over the top assuming unions agree to ihe plan in the three major local industries and management agrees to add the book work to the front office a large percentage of the population will be covered it is hoped then that smaller industries and bus inessmen who have even a stall of two or three will oln in this will leave only people employed out of town and there are a consider able number particularly at ma i ton and retired people who could be reached by a separale canvassing group at their homes it was emphasized at the meeting that the lions club although original backers of lite pool and heav test contributors to dale are not controlling the pool or the campaign some club members are serving on a committee which will have representatives from var ious organizations the pool itself when it is completed and paid for will be turned over to the town council and own ership will be municipal a recreation commission will be set up at that time to control management of the pool this is a necessary step in order to take advan toge of a government grant which will be available the heart is a garden the tteart is a garden where thought flowers grow the thoughts that we think are the seeds that we sow every kind loving thought bears a kind loving deed while a thought that is selfish is just like a weed we must watch what wo think each minute all day and pull out the weed thoughts and throw them awa and plant loving seed thoughts so thick in a row that there will not be room for weed thoughts to grow mr amy peter 100 harlscourt ave toronto tree planting needed many years ago we have heard there was a lo cal organization which was instrumental in providing natural beauty in georgetown by way of stately aven ues of tall trees along most of the then settled parts of town time has dimmed the memory of those who shar ed in this project although we believe dr frank wat son is one to whom credit can be given time and progress is also removing many of the trees thcmselves for trees like people do not live for ever and no one in those distant years could visual jze a day when highways and roads must be widened for modern traffic and trees must be cut down to pro vide the necessary space pot pourri nice to know that former georgotowners remem bar the old town this week we received a card from the harry billingtons who first lived at berwick hall when they came from england later near town irwan apartment on the clifford cook farm they now live in dallas texas and during a vacation tour of the mate sent a postcard from georgetown texas first time we had known that our town had a namesake there a recent news item which mention the ar menian farm was somewhat misleading the farm was located on the present site of cedarvale school the large barn which we supposed had been part of it was rather a pert of a jewish farm school established about the same time and for the same purpose rehab ilitation of young jewish war orphans in which mor- there is need for another such organization today if georgetown in the future is to be as beautiful as georgetown in the past trees should be planted along the street linos of new subdivisions other should bo replaced where they have died or been cut down for road widening there are few individuals who will do something about it and each year gone is one more year before such trees would be of proper size to perform their function we hope some of those who love beauty and who can look ahead even past their own years of en loyment will band together and do something about ns saxe played a maor part the
