consideration of purchasing a new fire truck was asked by fire chief william hyde when he appeared at council meeting monday to make his annual report mr hyde said that a new truck which would carry a supply of water would be a decided asset to the fire department and he believes fire los ses could be reduced with this type of equipment mr hyde who was accompanied by deputy chief jack harlow reported a total of 27 calls last year and was proud of an attendance record of bo per cent by firemen at these calls a total of 3100 was recorded in fire tones the large bulk of this in thre commercial fires when the old bowers motors building on the high way went up in flames there was a total loss of 119000 a recent tire at the adjoining georgetown creamery accounted for 5500 and a fire at meadowglen growers 3700 two of the calls were false alarms and 7 grass fires georgetown firemen also respon ded to 20 calls in the township two of these being rescue calls council promised serious considers tlon of mr hydes suggestion and fire chairman leroy dale said he would arrange a meeting between his committee and fire department exec utives to discuss a new fire truck fur ther a round of applause an unusual thing at a council meeting was given by members and visitors when war den stan allen replied to remarks of mayor armstrong congratulating him on the honour conferred on him and the town by county council sid hardie president of sunbeam ratepayers association asked action in rerouting a ditch which drains wa ter into edward street but which u claimed to cause trouble to half a willowdale is rev robert matthews once a member of the local st george s parish mr matthews who was born in brampton lived in georgetown when he was a young lad then moved with his parents to stratford his father harry matthews died a few years ago and his mother now lives in kitchen er mr matthews graduated last spring from st chad s college regina and since then has been assistant at st bad acci dents while council is debating what to do said reeve stan allen monday as council debated whether to place guard railings between the sidewalk and store parking areas in the george- view district mr allen pressed for action on railings which had been ordered by last years council when be was told that merchants had objected and the installation had been temporarily sus pended he received only partial support from council who turned the matter over to the new road committee for further study reeve allen said he believes it a mistake to instal a sidewalk on the co op side of community when andrew john lindsay died on friday janu ary 20th in guelph general hospital in his 90th year mr lindsay was born on lot 8 on the seventh line and lived and farmed in the district all his life he was ac tive all his life in affairs of the com munity and served in many capacities in the life and business of township as clerk of the court for twenty years tax collector assessor clerk
