council on monday voted to contri bute 1 000 as their share of a 3 000 grant by milton acton and george town to oakville humane society the money will be used to purchj ase a second truck for the society and help pay salary of an extra man the society then plans to serve the three towns to pick up stray dogs georgetown will receive two half day pickups weekly plus emergency calls when required mayor armstrong said at the meet ing that there is a possibility of the county council assuming dog control on a county basis but until this is done arrangements will go ahead with oakville reeve allen pointed out the ncces sity of having strict control when he reported that government authorities say that rabies will be a menace for at least fifteen years a lot of stray dogs are feeding from garbage pails and are either not owned by anyone or not wanted by their owners the reeve remark ed it would be a kindness he said to have these dogs picked up and hu manely disposed of and it would be a definite factor in controlling any threatened spread of disease as these dogs are the most likely to transmit rabies town engineer douglas wilson re ported that the petrafma company which is erecting a service station at the 0th line highway corner has agreed to set back the station to con form with future widening plans for no 7 highway council will offer canadian nation al railways 850 for an 8 acre prop erty adjoining the harold cleave farm which the cnr is putting up for sale deputj reeve doug sargent re porting for the industrial committee said he could not recommend action to service station early fri day morning were apprehended by guelph police before the robbery was reported to the local police it was the second break in at doug woods new service station on the highway no trace of the previous thieves has been found mr woods reported theft of ap proximately 50 from his desk to pol ice at 3am friday morning police chief roy haley contacted neighbour ing police departments and found that five youths had been picked up in guelph a few hours before and then had been turned over to bramp ton opp who were investigating rob bery of the arena at nobleton and a gas station near bolton one of the men had a quantity of money which matched the description of that miss ing from georgetown and he is re ported to have confessed entering the premises about 4 30 a m entry was gained by breaking a glass in the door archdeacon thompson was minister 22 years st georges parish archdeacon w g o thompson 72 anglican rector in georgetown and glen williams from 1932 district sara ann glcndinning 81 died last wednesday following a len gthy illness the daughter of the late robert glcndinning and the former mao noble miss lcndinmng was born in illinois usa she came with her parents to canada at a very early age and lived for man years near the v 1 lage of norval she was a devoted member of st paul s church and had been made a life member of the woman s auxil lary of the anglican church as a gift from the st paul s branch at one time miss glcndinning worked in osh awa nt the church of england home for children of missionaries in foreign lands following the death of her father she lived with a nephew rev r w coupland and carried on with her church work both in noa scotia and prince edward island and was pre paring to go with him to homings mi s when she served overseas for four years of the war after the war he took the george town position with the electric rail way whose station was in the build ing now housing georgetown dairy and was substation operator until the company went out of business several years ago he was one of the original mem bci m branch 120 canadian legion and after the first war took an active part in the reserve army attending summer camps and serving in the quartermaster stores he was an ar dent hockey fan throughout the years until his illness kept him home from the games members of the legion paid their respects at a service at the funeral home on thursday night surviving are his wife and seven chlldrcnvftgordon of weston mrs floyd varey lillian mrs william hillior edith flora ernest mrs frank king ethel and mrs dennis wright dorothy all of georgetown 12 grandchildren 5 great grandehil dren a sister mrs ernest cooper of toronto and two brothers charles and walter in london england he was predeceased by two children in infancy joseph and annie rev morgan mcfarlane conducted the funeral service on friday at the harold c mcclure funeral home he was assisted by the rev bogga of weston
