juniors for the annual seed judging competition merle gun by was the champion judge of the day and won the strathcona orchards trophy other trophy winners were george grcenlees who won the hal ton seed growers trophy emblematic of the high score in judging of cereal grains and sandy buchanan who had the high score in judging of hay and potatoes and thereby won the halton cream and butter co branch was the special speaker at a meeting of haltons three dairy herd improve ment groups on wednesday afternoon of last week the group met in the farmers bldg in milton compar ing the summaries of the 72 halton members for the years 1952 53 and 1954 55 it was pointed out by the speaker that they had in that two j ear period increased their average production per cow and had increased their size of business and improved their feeding efficiency but that lit tic or no change had been made on the other two factors it is the balan ced improved programme which counts no one factor in itself can offset the lack of efficiency in anoth- thc latter part of the afternoon was spent visiting and looking oer the farm business of sam harrop this young operator in the two year period has increased his average pro duction per cow by 3203 lbs increa sed the net returns of his herd b 2216 and reduced the cost of produ cing milk by 1 78 per cwt in com menting on this herd mr nelson sta ted this is what
