the herald i9 printed each wednesday in the office at 22 mam st georgetown subdivision complexities problems of roads and drainage have bobbed up with the opening of each new georgetown sub division and monday saw another delegation visit ing the council meeting to complain they had councils sympathy and while it might not seem so to people who are living in the present chaotic conditions a solution is bound to come and a year from now they will look back on present prob lems as one of the dark spots m what we hope has been an otherwise pleasan1 introduction to george town residents in the valley hill district have had a rougher time tharr possibly any others for they are dealing with a complex problem of a land owner the good with the bad frequent visits of new residents to town council meetings s creat ng a healthy situation too for it is making taxpayers aware of how municipal govern ment operates all too ma ly of the older georgetowners know little or nothing of the towns administration for it is human nature to become interested only when one has a specific request to make and only a hand ful of citizens attend even one council meeting dur ing the year there is no belter introduction to a town for new people than to see council in action to meet councillors personally and to watch how the large volume of public business is handled from the smal lest request for a tag day or removing a tree to th victoria day celebration it s several years s nee a pub c celebrat on wis planned in georgetown r v dona day and we art look ng forward to seeing the park filled next mon day as de from the opportunity of getting out to e oy the varied program planned a good crowd will show the hospital committee trnr their work is re cogn zed and that they have public support in quan tity for the huge task ahead n bu id ng a georgetowr hosp tal like any other large project there is terrific pot pourri a couple of well known harrys will be in the owen sound lacrosse lineup this year one of the teams wh ch georgetown n gs will meet harry lumley of the maple leafs hockey team and ex pro harry gazar stocky defenceman with meaford knights this year are both members of the owen sound team a district farmer complains of a metil water trojgh at his barn being wrecked with a bullet hole and asks hunters to be more careful in the vcinty of farm buildings we try to keep names stra ght n the herald but now and then we slip last week reporting news of teachers we re ported hazen graham as assistant a chapel st school when it si ould hive been hazen alien the week before n cr i onmq no n offcer of th citholtc wo mn s league we consulted the voters list for a name and came up w th mrs earl neil only to find later and a contractor disputing behind the scenes and q drainage situation which the town engineer thinks may only eventually be solved by storm sewering but looking backwards we remember what nor mandy blvd was like when wartime housing was erected the year the war ended and we remember each subdivision in turn when residents bogged down in mud came pleading to council for action perhaps in future new legislation which gives council more control over road conditions by making contractors post a bond will bear fruit but we ven ture to say that there will never be an utopian sub division where farmland is converted into residential lots without certain inconveniences the first year large questions of sewers water supply schools and new roads there is no one who would not benefit from an occas onal visit to listen to elected representatives as they deal with this mult plicity of business the herald reporter does his best to publicize town affairs and ndeed bel eves that this is the most important part of the weekly news budge bui cold pr
