member of the canadian weekly newspaper association and the ontario division of the c w n a get behind arena remodelling the targe sum of money being asked for renovations to georgetown arena is not as start ling as may look at first glance as a matter of fact the arena board is not asking for more mon ey from the taxpayers but an assurance for the issue of this amount in debentures the one mill subsidy already being recei ved by the board is sufficient jn the arena board s opinion to cover the debenture payments as they severally eclme due over a per od of ten or fifteen years the arena building is one of the towns biggest assets end we feel it should not be let deteriorate until it would have to be replaced en tirely the new renovaticjp would place the ar ena in a position where almost all community activity could be held the young people of this town deserve an up to date recreational centre and a far seeing arena board is planning for iheir recreational future we feel that this board should be given the vote of confidence they are asking and hope that every taxpayer in the community will vote in favour of this project fall fair next attraction follow ng close on the heels of the canad ian national exhibition georgetown fall fair will be held this year on september 21 and 22 the fall fair is one institution which has fulfilled a service to the community for over one hundred years and is looked forward to this year with the same interest as in the past the splendid cooperation which the es quesing agricultural society has received in rec ent years from both town and rural supporters is now reflected in the position which georgetown fair holds among the agricultural institutions of from sea to sea recently down in quebec province canada s biggest family party was held it first got that name when it was staged in toronto in 1954 and the label has stuck attending the party were close to 500 persons mostly members and their wives of the world s biggest press association the canad ian weekly newspapers association canada has close to 800 non metropoli tan weekly twice weekly and tn weekly papers and the large maonty of them pay dues rang ing up to 75 per year to support their national newspaper association in ontario alone there are over 200 weeklies it is true that the canadian weekly news papers association has a few economic objectives and is concerned to some extent with the over 25 million of advertising and printing its mem bers produce each year but primarily it lives simply for the promotion of canadianism although its head offices are in toronto the associations annual convention is held each year in a different part of canada this year it is quebec in 1957 it will be banff alberta he prov nee the agricultural society this year has both a new president and secretary and spencer wil son as president and trevor williams as secre tary both are optimistic for the success of this years show prize lists have been distributed to those who have shown in past years if you are a newcomer or an older resident making an entry for the f rst time contact the secretary and you w ii receive a prize list lets make the 1956 fall fair another big success by your continued cooperation m 1958 hal fax and to these conventions come the publishers and editors of not only rht b gger journals but the little ones too the fundy fish erman of blacks harbour the fort saskatchewan record the altona red river valley echo the fort qu appelle valley legend the osoyoos times and the similkameen spotlight names as p cturescjue and as canadian as canada itself at ihe r conference tables and their after hour discuss ons editors of french english and ore gn language papers men and women from rugged newfoundland fishing villages from prair e grain lands and from industrial centres in ontar o each year re discover the common ties that bind them and the ommunities into a can ada that is truly one dominion from sea to sea unsubs dized by government little her aided in the massey reports and seldom probed by sociologists we wonder if there is any single factor which looms larger in the development of a canadian culture than the anninl
