ble the product of the train ing is made use of in the school for instance the motor mechanics- department services the school trucks etc the construc tion students built two cottages on the grounds last year and the other trades have ample appor- tunity to ply their learning for the school buildings are constant ly being repaired and improved in the welding department they showed us the iron grills they are making for barbeque fireplaces the government is installing along the st lawrence seaway its impossible to go into detail about them all and tve probably forgot ten a few but that gives you an idea of the scale 6n which the school operates and the type training these boys receive how do they choose their trades to answer that ques tion the parole officer mr vic gunn took us back to when the boys are sentenced to guelph reformatory it is here that the offenders most likely to benefit from the training offered at bra mpton are chosen the boy is carefully checked and tested for his capabilities in guelph and if be measures up he is given the opportunity of serving his sen tence out in the brampton train ing school after arriving at the school the student goes through a short period of orientation during which he sees the uvades offered and makes his own decision about which one he wishes to learn if after a fair trial a boy finds he cannot adjust to the work he has chosen he may change how ever that docs not happen very often 1 the 175 or so students ac commodated by the training were welcomed to the easter thankoffehng meeting by the president mrs charles
