drive some by observing the legion all branches are urged to raise an umbrella of favorable publicity about their quarters show as ma ny as possible tfiroughthe branch and follow up with calls to houses of prospective members each group is urged to get as much fav orable publicity as possible and to use pictures to show what the legion has to offer new members in this zone a challenge trophy the irish armstrong memorial trophy named after a deceased well known member has been donated by one of his family this- cup will be gi ven at the end of 57 to the branch with the greatest gain in member ship we think the crux of the pre ent campaign is to impress upon present members the need for new members no branch can be an island unto itself the legion must have as its strength its national strength each month the legion ary lists about 130 members who have died that adds up to 1800 members a year through death and unfortunately this number is bound to increase each branch needs the support of its community many branches are achieving this through their community projects but the more members a branch has the easier it is to conduct such programs one of the favourite questions asked is why should i join the legion and heres some of the answers for 31 years the legion has wor ked for veterans all veterans when you got out of the service maybe you took technical training a university degree or vla assist ance perhaps youre drawing a pension and remember those gratuities which looked so good oh so long ago in 1945 well the le gion proposed most of the original legislation contained in the veter ans charter and has worked con sistently over the years since tc improve and broaden it it offers you expert advice on any problem relating to pensions or veterans legislation although all veterans are entitled to this service possibly you might want to contribute to ward it with your membership legion branches have i diverse range of community pie- grams as a member you ham an opportunity to put some of the ideas you may have about comaaata- ity betterment into action yota too have access to the legion hall and can take advantage of many ef the social gatherings your mast bership includes twelve copies et as tjhe lesjkm- awl tasftxy ywat put of a what 9a naniirttwna and aaawjrjcaaal ywe attar all yew fwacjmt toeafthn hved together ana eem to to
