the 1200 acres of valley forge parks historic grounds for a week ot scouting at its best the success of a jamboree how ever is not judged by the numbers attending out rather by the ming ling of boys from one country with those of another or in the case of this jamboree the ming ling or the boys frorttessrlth the boys- from the small r ton lea clark portion of the united states as it isexpressed by the texans so much- of pur time was spent with boys from allover the united states we canadians felt as though celebrities for where has the summer gone is the favorite question these days and now at us uk asked for our autof fer at this jamboree and tr 74371 j graphs and displayed interest in us generally we received a very cardial wel come from the american scouts and especially from the texans even though they do love to talk about texas they sure can make a person feel at home while there we toured most of valley forges historical spots in cluding the beautiful chapel this chanei has a wonderful set of bells which ring out the time and also send the tunes of many familiar hymns pealing oyer the campsite while at valley forge wwalso took an interesting tour of nearby phil adelphia a city steeped in ameri can history at the official opening of the jamboree we had the great plea sure of hearing richard nixon vicepresident of the united states give a very interesting address a very inspirational message was de livered by dr louis h evans at the impressive church service july 14th during the couase of the jam boree we had the great honqur of meeting majorgeneral d c spry chief of the international bureau ofqm oy scouts dr arthur a schucls chief scout executive of the boy scouts of america ken neth bechtel president of the boy scouts of america ettas boyaner are on the bulletin board in the legion a vote of thanks should go to rex heslop the genial owner of delrex and our honorary president for giving us- the use of his prop erty again for this affair it has been held there for so long it would be a shame to hold it any other place particularly when its such an ideal location rex assures us that were welcome to it aitho he cant make it himself as busi ness is taking him to los angeles tonight on questioning him we find that business is going to in clude a trip to the famed disney land for the whole family as well they expect to be back next wed nesday sorry to hear- alvin mcdonald is still in sunny brook and also a twenty five year member bill hadley is still there bill has had a long stretch of it and has been there for a nurnber of years we know both men would enjoy seeing any of their comrades who happen ed to be down that way there are not- too many get down because it is a rather awkward place to get to unless you have a car and the visiting hours are fairly strict so we suggest anyone in the district would be more than welcome if theyd drop in we forgot last week or rather didnt have room in our column for the report on the authors and composers outfit that was given at the convention ontario has ask ed dominion command to make a strong representation to the royal commission governing this law to have it changed a suggestion was also made that the secretary of state be approached directly all the districts were unanimous in supporting this resolution the lengths to which this outfit will go to collect their money is reflec ted in the fact that among the list of songs they claim royalties for are the national anthem and the old rugged cross although we were warned not to refer to them as a pack of leeches and chiselers again for fear of legal action we feel that there is no reason why we cant still think it along with a good many others we hope to see the day when all organizations put money in a common fund to fight this outfit and get legislation regarding it re vised the legislation itself is ex tremely old having been- original ly passed with a view to protecting composers against infringement on what was then considered the new tangled phonograph record fthe way the group beats the game is by claiming rights to the particular way the tunc is played the arrangement not the tune
