burrows has been re tired for several years since hav ing a serious illness at that time but his death came suddenly ir burrows had only lived in brampton since the summer time having lived in the ranks both in a civilian and mili tary sense in journalism he be gan as a raw recruit in both front office and back shop and became managing editor of the conserva tor he resigned that post to major in commercial printing he was taken on strength of the lome scots reserve force aa a private on feb 20 1940 and was commissioned in june of that year in april 1941 he went ac tive and proceeded overseas in may 1942 where he- served in england and northwest europe he returned to canada and was released from the active force in march 1946 after a twomonth breather herejoined the lorne scots reserve as a captain he served aa adjutant from novem ber 1946 to september 1947 and then he was promoted major and commander of a company he ltcol a kemp cd commanded c company from janu ary 1948 until he was made second in command in march 193 onmtee 13 1954 he was pro moted to the rank of lieutenant- colonel and officer commanding col charters baa found time to be active in lions and is a mem- jtgr of christ church anglican he is a member of the royal canadian military institute lleutcol kemp 42 the new commanding officer has resided in the burlington area since child hood son of mr and mrs thos a kemp of burlington he was educated in the local public and high schools in 1940 he married the former isabel beatrice smith daughter of mr and mrs w l smith a family well known in the burlington district for many years colonel and mrs kemp have three children ian 7 kathleen 5 and cameron a ycarandahalf old a fruit grower he is a member of the burlington fruit and vege table growers association he was president for three years and is currently berving as a director of the ontario fruit and vegetable growers association he is a member of the burling ton senior chamber of commerce and is one of the original members of the inter urban- area water board of burlington and nelson serving the four years since its in ception he is a member of st lukes anglican church his military
