postpone it all at least one night so the meeting could honestly be called a public one by announcing it the following morning sunday to all the parishioners this we were told by the chairman and secretary of the election meeting would be illegal according to the separate school act the whole formation of this board was so set up that no outsider present including our most devoted pas tor who incidentally had no vote could have changed it we are writing this mr editor for the sole purpose of informing all catholics and anyone else in terested of the true events lead ing up to this situation which has become public we are trying to point out that most objections raised except possibly those of mr gibbons are not against a separate school nor are they against the board but only against questionable manner by which this board came into being and the obscure yet arrogant attitude they adopted at their first public meeting in their capacity as board of trustees we reel sure that at least 5 of all catholics here know there is every reason and an urgent need for a separate school in george townand that we will all gladly support it and stand behind our separate school board when the true facts are given and the amount if any the financial re sponsibility will be to each and every one of us as supporters this information we feel is expe dient before any positive and dei unite action is taxen by the board we class as aheer fantasy mr gibbons implication that a se parate school would in any way affect the happy relationship which so obviously does exist be tween catholics and noncatholics of this town it is ridiculous to imply that by the formation of a separate school the catholic population is in any manner or form insulting the public school system board or staff of georgetown we arc all well aware of the magnificent job they have been doing especi ally so during the last three years of overcrowding in the schools and we agree that the public schools in georgetown are credit to education however we as catholics do not believe that home and church are the only places to teach reli gion we know that the catholic doctrine is a major part of the education of all catholics and because of this we feel duty bound to provide such education for our catholic children to the best of our capabilities being fully aware of the probabilities of extra financial responsibilities since we realize that our doctrine cannot have any part of education in a public school for children of all faiths we therefore must form our own separate school obvi ously the ontario government al so appreciates this fact or it would not so recently have raised the grants for separate schools in the province in conclusion we would like to say that we are very sorry that mr gibbons should try to magm fy a squabble into a hurricane we fell sure that when our board of trustees decides to pre lesion branches army challenge shoot this friday this friday evening georgetown armouries will be the scene of a shooting match holding wide inter est to men in georgetown and dls trict the shoot will feature branches of the canadian legion in milton and georgetown
