tlnw in recent months they moved to engage a man previously their motion suggested a salary of 10000 and on monday an 8000 salary was indicated in the motion which on a recorded vote was deleated 7 to x both councilors explained that they had no dissatisfaction with work of wm e carr who has served georgetown in a parttime capacity for a year cr harrison said mr carr himself had told council recently that he did not feel he has the necessary time to operate his own business and serve the town also mayor arm strong explained that since then mr carr has himself engaged an assistant engineer andthat he has changed his opinion and is in a position to continue in the towns employ reeve doug sargent indicated he might favour a fulltime man but did not agree with the salary suggested others expressed agreement with cr hyde who said the town has the services of an engineering staff at a reasonable jfee and should continue as long as thfo situation exists he reminded council that an engineers salary is not the whole cost and that if a man is engaged he will need assistants were operating a million dot lar business and have a consul tant instead of a man who is available at all times was cr sykes opinion i dont know of any large business which operates without a general manager cr john gunn said that as mr carr has pointed out there is an occupational hazard in working for a town and he doesnt think too many good engineers are at tracted to municipal work as voting took place mayor armstrong said he was in the position of agreeing with all the opinions expressed the town
