hall in the milton fair grounds for the announce ment of the awards and presenta tion of prizes vh homacnaker president roy ford of the hal- ton juniors was in charge of the evenings programme among the awards to the 4h homemakers was the presentation to miss mar ilyn wrigglesworth of hornby of the halton district wi special this presentation was made by mrs velma norris president of the halton district wi and will entitle miss wrigglesworth to be a member of the united nations tour sometime during the late summer the toronto dominion bank specials were presented by mr kerr manager of the oakvillc branch to the misses evelyn bird margaret bird and marilyn wrig glesworth of the ashgrove club whose leaders are- mrs clayton wilson and mrs wilfred bird fifteen h homemakers who each had completed successfully a total of six different projects weer the recipients of county hon our pins which were also presen ted to them by mrs velma norris the young ladies receiving these awards were marie mitchell joan moffat patricia mckay meryl flock shirley hunt beverley roe joyce robertson verna picket gail dobbie margaret nightingale june rennick marilyn rognvald- son helen auckland margaret whewell nancy mckenzic four of the halton junior home- makers who had completed twelve different projects or more were announced as provincial honour winners and were the recipients of a provincial honour pin each these also were presented to the young ladies by mrs vchna nor ris another pleasing feature of this part of the evenings programme was the announcement that mrs s kirkpatrick of limehouse bad completed five years service as a leader in 4h homemaking club work and would be presented with the leaders- certificate by the canadran council on 4h clubs pnrtmi top- judge bruce pewtrcss of milton was the top halton- livestock judge of the day and don johnston of mil ton won the norval juniors cbal- lengetrophy emblematic of the high aggregate score on the com bined competitions of march seed judging and may 31st livestock judging the hamilton spectator award based on judging ability over a two year period 441 club activity junior fanner activity plus lead ership and executive ability mts won by wa c robinson of oafc- ville the presentation was made by don kouage district editor of the hamilton spectator the ugh novice of the day was tom hays jr who thereby won the cnk challenge shield rublnim top coach the palermo junior farmer challenge trophy for the coach of the winning team was won by bill roblnsnn of oakville the mem bers bttus team being tom hays tom hunter and don taylor don taylor was also the runner up for the united nations tour and the refore won the kingsway kiwanis short course scholarship special the bank of nova scotia spec ials for the high township team of three in livestock judging was won by the trafalgar township trio of bruce pewtress tom hays and don johnson the dr r k anderson trophy emblematic of the high junior farmer club in the march and may competitions was won for the sec ond year in succession by the mil ton juniors with palermo in sec ond position carolyn gardhoum high girl carolyn gardhouse of hilton re peated her triumph of a year ago when she tied for first position in the girls section by placing first on may 31st carolyn along with mary lou taylor and barbara pickard comprised the winning girls tam which was coached by ed segsworth and thereby recei ved the lloyd pickard specials other awards were as follows girls section carolyn gard house mary lawrence margaret lawson evelyn mckay pat bers of haltons champion debat ing team of 1958 namely jean bird barbara cunningham jean peterson and mildred watson their coaches george e elliott qc and j e whitelock were also recipients of gifts from the mem bers of the debating team girls enrolled in clubs last year out numbered boys even more significant than the growth in 4h membership has been its constructive influence on agric ulture and on our canadian way of life mr moore stated successful men and women in all fields of en deavour he said frequently refer to the value of the training they re- ceiyedas former club members while leadership training is bas ically a provincial matter mr moore pointed out that the council is pleased to assist in every way possible he said an estimated 10000 persons at the local level are today assisting the provincial departments of agriculture in or ganizing and carrying out the club program on behalf of the 4h council mr moore paid trib ute to the extension departments and local leaders
