sets 13 council meeting fee a bylaw amendment passed its three readings monday by council legalising an increase in meeting tee for councillors reeve and dep uty to 13 00 an increase from 1000 to 1500 for the mayor was already in effect as this is not part of the allowance bylaw there was little discussion when the bylaw was introduced pour councll members reeve sargent deputy reeve gray anrlcrs el liott and gunn voted against it as thby had previously done the vote was a recorded one with mayor armstrong joining the oth er four councillors to carry the increase 54 before the vote mayor arm strong pointed out that two neigh uouring municipalities pay a flat yearly fee which approximates what georgetown members will now receive from attendance at some 50 meetings in a year deputy reeve gray said he was opposing the increase not because he thinks it is too great an am ount but because he thinks the beginning of the year is the ihbc for buch action before the budget is struck td like to sec a unanimous f ote because eirjone will btne fit from tht increase said r j harrison however if the vote n t unanimous i hac another motion to prist nt afterwards with cr mcdilvraj protesting i that he had signed the motion a- seconder thinking it was just a 1 bit of b play and cr harrison insisting that he had meant it tht mayor then read a motion that the increased allowance be paid b j separate cheque so any council j lor who wished would have an opportunity of turning the in crease back to the town j ith several councillors pro testing that this was creating an embarrassing situation cr ham son decided to withdraw the mot ion earlier in the meeting a letter criticizing the increase was read bj the clerk from a former coun cillor cecil davidson 10 albert st the letter
