brampton lair grounds for their tenth family reunion tills fjranch of the bmrnrldge family was founded in canada by thomas brownridge who emigrated from yorkshire in 1819 4nd homestead ed lot 4 cone 7 esquesing twp halton he married ellu ward of islington in 1822 and they rai sed a family of 7 sons and one daughter on this homestead near hornby according to the latest available information 861 descen dants of this original couple have been born in canada or the usa in the 136 years since that time the brownridge homestead at hornby has been in the family for 136 of the 139 years since it considerable interest to many was a collection of individ ual and family group photographs most of them taken many years ago a genealogical chart of the brownridge family was also on display and attracted a great deal of attention it was compiled by wilfrid f irvin the family histor ian who started work on it over twentyfive years ago using infor mation collected by joseph brownridge his grandfather be fore the latters death in 1921 in his 92nd year this chart jshows the names of 681 descendants of thomas brownridge and eliza ward born in america since 1822 the saturday reunion was fol lowed on sunday by a brown ridge family memorial service in ashgrove united church at 230 pm which was in charge of pas tor robert w irvin of richmond hill baptist church a great grand son of the founding father of this family in canada also taking part in this service were mr ward brownridge the new assoc- president mr jehu o guthrie im mediate past president mr c norman wortman of toronto baritone soloist misses jenny mae arlene and dianne brown ridge of georgetown a vocal trio and mrs r h wright florence ruddell who provided organ ac companiment throughout following this service a floral tribute was deposited on the fam ily plot in the ashgrove cemetery across from the church in honor and remembrance of the family forefathers resting there about 125 persons were present at this impressive service family and friends then adjour ned to the homestead where ward brownridge and his gracious wife held open house for a couple of hours of fellowship and reminis cence weh control i most important key to successful farming plans are now under way for the first land judging competition to be held in halton county the land judging programme is being sponsored by the credit and six teen mile creek conservation au thorities in cooperation with the halton office of the ont dept of agriculture and the soils dept at the ontario agricultural col lege guelph the land judging competition is scheduled for thursday july 24th at the farm of f d charles on the 5th line of esquesing twp lot 16 at 130 pm a soils pro gramme is planned for the after noon while the competitors are judging this programme will be con ducted by professor tom lane of the soils dept and will include a tour of soils in the stewarttown area the various soil types will be classified and discussed from the standpoint of their ability to grow certain crops the actual competition will in clude three classes those under 16 years 16 to 20 and 20 to 30 years of age at 9 an the com petitors will register at the stew arttown hall a full morning of instruction in soils has been wor ked but and the various methods of soil judging will be reviewed to conclude the day a- dinner is being held at the
