their mils and wanting to go to the bathroom in the suspense of wait ing to hear about our holiday so i wont keep you on tender hooks any longer theres nothing mora enjoyable than tha absorbing a of somebody elivs holiday trip it produces a delightful lassitude of the limbs heaviness of the eyes and woolinoss of tha mind that are most relaxing really thought ful travellers will have coloured slide of the trip and you can drop right off as toon as the lights are turned out depending on your wife to sit ther and chirp things like whit a lovely view you lucky peoplar and stuff like that ive been trying to tell people about our trip ever since wc got back have a nice holiday they ask interestedly well yes i begin rather shyly went for a little trip with the and they bellow aint it awful travelling with kids vwooden get me offona nother trip and tell me for 20 minutes about some dumb excursion they were on a month maid of the mist and we had to go on the boat ride in the gorge we got delightfully soaked in the spray and the rapturous grins of the kids were worth the whole trip than wa wanted to oat it took half an hour to find a hkv plac to suit my whv we ell sat down tha waitress brought our steady controlled heatfkom your living room the blpe coar temp- master changes furnace controh autocmilcally saves wall i jiate to admit it but we did have a nice holiday and tra velling with kids is not so bad af ter all ifs probably no wo than spending a couple of days in a bag full of baboons first we went to the ex and it would take nothing less than a regiment of horses to make me go through it again i went for the bundle on the midway a kid clu tching each hand kim hugh and i went on the unost violent rides they had as fast as we could while the old lady stood around bleat ing and wringing her hands each time wed climb off some wild ride sick white and shaken shed plead havent you had enough lets go and sec the food exhibit but the kids were too smart to be trapped like that they know if they let me stop long wwu for my hood to stop spinning id havo enovgh sense to have en ough norvo to call a halt and i was ust as determined that as lone as my stomach and money hold out theyd never learn what a craven 1 was behind that cold sweating face and sickly grin they won but so did i after a ride on the wild mouse which put more pure cold fear through my innards than anything since the day a fellow put a 40 mm shell through my wing right be side the cockpit i threw in the white towel dent you think wo should lot mom have some fun i quavered they fmelry agreed disgustedly to take her on the only ride shell venture on so tha four of sat the kids snorting with amu meat their mother gasping sides while we wont a look at them then at each oth er grabbed a kid each and hooded n ae dignified a retreat as pos sible for the door there was nothing under s3 on the sheet if youd ever seen kim messing around in a s3 dinner the while complaining vehemently because shes not allowed french fries and an ice cream cone the fav ourite meal you wouldnt have blamed us wc wound up at a holeinthewall eating another in the neverending stream of hot dogs from one hand and beating off the flies with the other which suited the kids down to the ground that night we stayed at a swanky hotel i gave the bellboy his dime with that touch of cos mopolitan elan that only a weekly editor can achieve kim had nev er seen a bellboy before and lat er when we were wondering where the swimming pool was lo cated she piped why didnt you ask the butler est mildest meet babyish most oldwomanish ride in the midway which was fine with me as this was the childrens trip we then took off for niagara falls like all kids they were deeply impressed by the magnificent spe ctacle gating at it with awe for at least forty seconds before start ing to look around for a hotdog the jmjk apotter next day a flying visit to the stratford festival the play la ted over three hours and by the end of act 2 the kids were wig gling like worms hugh and i were deeply mortified and tried to act as though we didnt know them when kim and her mother got into an audible argument ab out whether the former should put her shoes on just before inter mission while dozens of cultured spinsters turned around and his sed at them like snakes and then the long journey home swearing wo wouldnt eat another hot dog or hamburger for a month the youngster groggy with xhaustion tho inside of the car resembling the town dump and the deep satisfaction of tucking therft in their own beds then co ming down to the dear familiar kitchen for a midnight cup of tea and admitting to each other- some what reluctahtty that the trip af ter all had been a roaring success that education is likely to be james singleton principal of northview heights collegiate in north york and president of the ontario secondary school teach ers federation said last week we teachers are assailed by a lagueoflocosts he meant that too many people were spreading false criticism of the educational system that the man in the street has too much to say about what is being taught the view of parents and the public as loc usts destructively easing into pub lic education in this province be trays weakness in professional educators if their science is as exact and sound as some peda gogues would have us believe it would welcome criticism if only to confound the critics the truth is that pedagogy is not a profound science and that teaching is still an art requiring at every turn the acceptance of the public and the justification of its product when the public is not prepared to accept johnnies schooling as being as good as it should be and when susie has not learned to read properly then is when public criticism is most vo cal as it should be professional educators here are not working in a totalitarian state where the public has to accept what is giv en and shut up may we remind educators that the material they are working with is the flesh and blood of an xious parents and further that as taxpayers these parents are paying for the education of their young so parents continue to buzz around the educators it may at least help them to arrive at a phi losophy of education consistent with their professional status need mr singleton himself reco gnizes zetland fine watches since 1837 all
