friday and saturday oct 3 and 4th legion nqtes y leslie m clark the zone church parade will be held sunday next sept 21st in port credit with that branch of the legion playing host the pay rade will form at 2 00 pjrt in front of the legion hall and will proc eed to the cenotaph tor a short service last year georgetown had a very excellent turnout in oakvllle and as we believe that port credit has made extensive preparations for this big day in much the same way as oakvllle did last year it is certainly hoped that there will be a large turn out from branch 120 all branch es in the zone have promised a big representation so lets hope that georgetown will do the same two years ago a new system was started with the annual zone parade and it was decided to rot ate it each car to a different branch the flnt year 1956 it was held in georgetown with a tremendous turnout and last year also was a terrific success this year promises to be as big again and we have been notified that once again the whole parade will appear n tv 1 hi will tstub ish something of a record with it appearing on tv two jears ao and la t ear as jiarl of the oak ville centennial celebrations the two tv station have promised to televise the parade as well as parts of the service so this will be quite an interesting event remember the date sunday september 21st in port credit at 2 00 p m at the legion hall be sure and be on hand for a great day as you know port credit is noted for its hospitality to vi sitors and we feel this year will be no exception an one wishing to go or w 10 has room in his car for extra passengers be at the legion hall at 1 o clock it seems hard to realize that remembrance day lies just ar ound the corner and et it is onlv a matter of two months awa and with the thought of this da which takes us all back so far it is onlj right that we should think of the great project that is car ned on each ear at that time the poppy campaign it is not loo carlv to think of this and in deed t offer jour services to the person who each ear carries this burden so abl and well mrs cnec each ear the job be comes more onerous as the town grows and gies a corresponding larger temtor to cover even in the case of the schools where pop pies arc distributed each year one can see genuine increase and this ear with another two schools it will be even more noticeable so why not volunteer to help on this big job it will be apprec latcd plans arc now underway for the remembrance supper and it will not be very long until we can give ou a report on this we believe that the president and entertain ment chairman wil the getting to gcther on this in the near future the new bakery store opening next door to the i eg on hall is going to make an attractive addi tion to the downtown business scene an attractive show window is being put in and will add const dcrably to mill street the owner incidentally is a fer gus man having ran a bakeshop there until his retirement and is a members of the legion branch there what wo are about to say will no doubt receive criticism so we hasten to add the views are onl our personal ones as an indivi dual they regard the parade on last sunday wmch we regard as a disgrace to a branch of ovrr 400 members frankly had it not been- tor the number ot vets of 1014416 plus visiting branch es it would have been very poo indeed it was in fact the poor est turnout the branch has ever had on a parade of that sort if even those who had someone whose grave was being decorated had all turned out it wight have been s great deal larger parade to our way of thinking there was was no excuse save carelessness or that other reason which shall not put in print but along with a good many more who were present eel was the basic underlying reason to those who did parade we think the branch owes a vote of thanks we also find it rather a commentary on human nature that those who did most of the complaining about the fact that a parade was not held last year were most conspicuous by their ab sence on parade it is evidently quite a different matter to com plain bitterly in the beverage room about how things ought to be run than to actually practice what they preach once again mrs grieve made a beautiful job of the wreaths for the graves and we think that a debt of thanks is owed to hor for her wonderful job council deserves a vote of thanks for their excellent turn out as docs the hand anu the lad ies auxiliary and cadets the col our party was a large one with many outoflpwn bpanches send ing colours at any rate with the apprdach of remembrance day we will be only too happy to cat our words about the poor attendance on dec oration day if we have a real big turnout how about it bt inch 120 hamilton construction 66 prince charles drive tr 73480 homes
