fourteen years has wit- nessed the legion making a phen- omenal growth it has seen the membership firow toell over the four hundred mark with many more we are convinced only wait ing to be asked to come in public relations wise the stock of the branch stands high with everyone in the community and we trust that in the years to come no matter who assumes office it will remain so the legion in the past two years acquired heavy responsibility in the acquisition of the rest of the business block contrary to the odd rumour the branch did not wish to enter the real estate bus iness but in order to secure the central portion of the building in the old garage the whole building had to be taken as since that time certain changes structurally have been made and we now are landlords to one of the commun- itys most thriving businesses the scotch bakery however we do not feel that any of the executive have ever had a desire to turn the branch into a profit making real estate business but only to protect the expansion that must lie ahead as we survey the terrific press at the christmas tree new years as well as the remembrance day banquet we can only think of one logical answer that is the raising or the roof over the baker allow ins extra auditorium space of at least twice the present main hall upstairs this would seem logical i to us and indeed it was suggested by a contractor who has seen the legion grow immensely and who finished the building alter the ill- fated explosion of a number of years ayo some time ago he mentioned that when the legion decided to expand that was the proper and most efficient way to do it the most inexpensive and at the same time allowing the bottom story to bring in revenue to help pay for its construction it is to our mind a plan that bears study as it would solve for alt time the present limited space av ailable for bingos and dances as well as for future growth but may we hasten to say let no one push these years we will not be as active in the branch as we have been the past and too we are growing just a little tired of being credif ed with pushing various projects when really we are no longer par ticularly interested we would like to thank the ex ecutivc and the president for a great job again this year and feel the large majority will agree the unescapable fact is however that running the legion has become a very large task and one that no ordinary man with limited time at his disposal can manage in fact we very much doubt that an one other than some onewilh a business or job that he canajways get away from can do justice to it any more a far cry from back in the early days when they gros sed three hundred dollars in a year we hasten to add in case presi dent garvin reads this that wc dont mean to imply that he does nt have to spend time at his own business but we do feel that he has been able to devote more time to it than previous presidents in this day and age where you have to go down to visit judge robb oc casionally as woll as other time consuming errands it certainly helps to all the boys on the executive we can only say that the branch should be very grateful for your job in handling the finances and tuidinethe branch especially af thecripplihg beer strike of last summer which well nigh ruin ed other outlets financially toi say that you have handled the fi nances as carefuly as you would your own isyhigh praise but quite applicable don forget sunday at 2 to elect yoiifisob officer brampton had their installation hut wednesday evening with a number of georgetown men help ing in the installation among those elecled was their new presi dent jack burrell well known hockey and lacrosse figure who has many friends locally we are sure jack will do a great job saturday was the annual
