motion picture films that were both interesting and ed ucational were shown by mr al jen on thursday evening feb 5 the first film which was in col- our and bore the title north of hudson bay was one at a series of films called canadian vacation series it depicted the nineday journey taken by passengers on the muskeg special an excursion train that runs once every sum mer from winnipeg to churchill on hudson bay with a stopover at fhn flon this film is especi ally interesting to canadian au diences in view of the fact that churchill is daily becoming an important canadian ocean port the second film perspective described the visit paid by newspaper reporter to salt springs island off the coast of british gait springs island- has been developed as a communi ty for senior citizens and the numerous interviews in the film between the reporter spoken of above and some of these senior citizens proved how rewarding and enjoyable living m such community can be coho fishing on the fly warren chairman of the senior citizens committee of the club each of the choral numbers sung was presented in lovely fashion and this lovely rendition was made more enjoyable by the variety of numbers included two hymns now the day is over and o god beneath they guiding hand and the very appealing song the lamb were among the numbers sung two piano numbers allegretto and the londonderry air were ejp pertly played by margaret pratt and three accordion numbers among them the selection o sole mio played by buddy schwandt deqighted the audience this chorus of young girls and hoys included among its members a triple trio that had won the triple trio competition at the halton county music festival in 1958 and that will compete at the kiwanis music festival in toronto on feb 18th at the close institute splendid reports were given of the successful bake sale and the pro gressive euchre held in stewart town the members were honor ed by two delightful piano solos given by mrs r t paid norma thompson showed some very beautiful coloured slides of various places she had visited and each member enjoyed them thor ougfcly since many of the places brought back memories of visits fiey themselves
