the 1959 tax budget this year members of the board with george muckart as spokesman re quested this at mondays council meeting pointing out that k would be impossible to finance cemetery costs this year without tax assist ance which has not been received since 1956 a surplus accumula ted by the board was used up last year for fencing the property mr muckart explained and he hoard as faced with such expenses this year as purchase ofa new mower and improvements to the newer part of the cemetery a mortuary has also been dis- oussedf by theboard and while an architect was consulted on this two years ago there has been no definite decision to add this to cemetery facilities moving to grant 46 000 to the board finance minister mcgilvray expressed council s appreciation for foregoing a tax grant the two previous years asking if an entrance off maple ave had ever been considered or fred harrison was told by the treasurer harry savings that no land is available for this as an ol3 entrance 9th 1959 an excellent roast beef dinner was provided the 180 boys and dads by the ladies auxiliary highlights of the evening were the presentation of sweaters and crests for the best apple day has kcts the ladies of the auxiliary who assisted the cubs at camp were presented lovely cups and saucers the ladies in turn pres ented the group committee with two scout pictures reproductions of the founder lord baden powell and the other of painter ernest carlos the pathfinder mrs ted clark the vice chairman of the group committee framed the pic lures for hanging mr david macgillivra of v aara hamilton fridan february isth miss thornberry died very sud denly in her sleep on february 9 at her home on robinson street hamilton at the age of fiftyfour she was horn in county tyrone ireland and
