approaches by ttv editor are students turning away from our high schools colleges and un iversities tend abandoning their one chance of advancement why is it that so few students reach university if any these are questions which are puzzing school boards all over canada it is an acute problem when you consider the thousands entering our high schools today as compar ed with the few entering univer stty it is almost frightening the first question is why would a boy or girl wish to leave school at the age of 16 to get a job pro bably in a factor he may earn 1 50 an hour but ten years from now he 11 not be earning much more and he will still be doing the same job there is no ad vancement of any kind here but if this same boy had so much as obtained his senior matriculation there is no telling where he could go he could work m a factory to day tomorrow if he liked he could further his education and acquire a bachelor ot arts or sci ence degree he could then enter any field scientist doctor law yer or engineer then he would have a good pa ing dependable job man students claim thev quit school because their parents can not afford to send them to uni j versity if this is the cae thev i are making a verj bad mistake for there are bursaries and schol arships available to outstanding students there are also colleges where jou can work jour waj thro school such as waterloo college also you could obtain jour senior matriculation get a job and work until you earn enough monev to complete a unuersit courc so you see if jou possess initiative and hop to it there is no reason why you should not obtain the profession of jour desire out of 100 students entering high school todaj roughlj 3 grad headache not a disease a headache is not a dis ease u is a symptom it reflects a disturbed state within the body this may be precipitated by a number of factors fatigue worry improper eating digestive disturbance constipation lack of sleep overwork high blood pressure etc in deal ing with the headache by means of powders and pills one is treating only a symp tom and not the actual cause it is important to remem ber that unless there is nerve irritation to begin with the body can deal with many stresses and strains without undergoing a headache symp tom it is when the nervous system u off balance or in an irritated state that the head ache starts nerve irritation causes spasm of certain blood vessels in the brain this in turn causes congestion of blood which creates the typi cal headache sympton pain on one side of the head nau sea and disturbances of vis ion chiropractic research was first to determine that this irritation is often the result of minor displacements or subluxations of vertebrae these occur primarily in the upper spine chiropractic care is directed toward the correction of these structur- lal disturbances by highly skilled manual means this removes the cause of nerve irritation in this way the symptoms are removed at their very basic origin at the spinal column georgetown chiropractic clinic aey dc litmnfr tmndifi smotsey utatol bum uate from university this may seem fantastic but it is true con sider that jn this world of science the age of complete automation is drawing nearer day by day and with it increased unemployment for the labourer therefore pos siblj in 1969 machines will be per forming our workman s job what then will become of the the evening of fndaj march vidson hd mcmuilm catherine 13 the graduating class of george- hunter stewart bottomlej town high school held its spring formal called the stardust ball at the howard vtngglesworth auditor the music nas supplied bv a band from guelph under the direction of mr ben alexander the band was a 5 piece consisting of drums trumpet guitar alto sax and elec trie organ the band was well re ceived and because of its good rep ertoire and the characterization by the trumpet plajer it appears that most of those present would be in favour of having them back ag ain the decorations were exception all good and it exemplified the in genuity of ljnn scott who created most of the ideas it consisted of a false ceilung of cheesecloth be decked with thousands of stars of many colours two 6 foot stars of gleaming aluminum foil were also m view one of which was surroun ded by strings of blue lights that added a dreamy atmosphere to the dance all in all decorations are said to be the best of all our form als a new custom was inaugurated at this dance however and that is the crowning of the queen of the ball robert hooper last years president of the student council crowned miss virginia walker queen and presented her with a dozen red roses and a check to be used in the furthering of her edu cation all during the dance punch and cookies were being served in the hall under a veil of more blue light just to add to the mood of stardust mr r m turkington a profes sional photographer from town was present and it is hoped that a picture of the queen of the ball will soon appear in this paper on behalf of all those at the dance and this year s student coun cil i would like to thank all those who helped with any part of the formal this year without you it value tow forpnofo once again the annual january bout with the exams has come to an end all that remains now is to clean up the messy battlefield the exam papers and to correct the mistakes which have been made the dreadful days of wait ing until the papers are returned become days of joy or days of grief as the results of each exam are discovered as at each writing the question has again arisen are exams nec essary do they serve the purpose which they arc intended to serve also once again both staff and students are expressing their be liefs and their reasons for these beliefs t naturally some are for the ex ams and some are against them the following arc the results of a series of interviews with the staff and students in georgetown high with the impromptu answers as thiy were received the first person interviewed was a high school board member he i said that he thought examinations were very valuable the real value is that it gives the teacher an indication of the student s progress it gives the stu dent an idea of his own progress and it provides a measuring stick with which the parents may mca sure both students aiumeacher i think that there should be dc partmcnlal examinations from rade x up to accustom the stud ent to writing exams and ensure that curriculum is up to depart mcnl standards this jear grade xn students will have departmental in some subjects do ou think that one j ear of training is enough no man students have a fear that thev are not well enough ad vanced to conquer grade xiii the feel that the were marked hih in the lower grades the poor grade mil standings of man students seims lo indicate that this s true i think that departm ntals hould start in rode x with an exam like the old rnlrance paper bv the time that the student is period a goal ly tttdley tfttne aramd period tied the score falkingham flipped the rubber across the line for georgetown assisted by dixon and richardson acton fokpwed up with a goal by malcolm assisted by iawson campbell snapped right back with a goal for georgetown lawson followed up with a goal for acton and riddall in turn popped one in for georgetown lawson tied the score up again but
