adjourned to gather next year in the united church in lowville next years hostess will bp mount union women institute now my friends there wux a meeting as wux a meeting we speak of the legion month ly meeting last thursday one that was poorly attended but interest ing too often over the past nine years meetings have adjourned be cause there was evidently nothing to be brought up too often have the very people who have the most to say in the beverage room find themselves twiddling their thumbs in stony silence in a meeting only to break forth enthusiastically la ter on in the club rooms about what they were goln to say but alas didtootl we do not advocate a return to the early postwar years when it was fashionable to be kept fidget ing until 1130 while some char acter droned on about various un important trivia but we do feel a happy medium should be met say about an hour and a half mee ting last thursdays was ideal in this respect and while the sub jects ranged from the unimport ant to the most important we do feel it was a better meeting for all of that the two important items were iflie discussion re the moving of the cenotaph and the hospital pair of subjects that will need a great deal of careful thought a committee has been set up to study the cenotaph question and to make some explorations into locations etc with the town coun ci the hospital financial campaign came up a number of times and is to have a full dress discussion at the next meeting many of he members spoke all in favour of ic branch doing something bi in this field and anj ideas or suggestions discussed and also the forthcoming zone par ade in brampton on june 7th it was hoped a good number would be present for both affairs the meeting ended with a hot meal served by jim murphy and his helpers we were most pleased to see mrs tom gneve able o be down to present her report and say hello to the boys this is the first we have seen her about the branch since her unfortunate heart at tack a few weeks ago and altho she did not stay too long we are certain all the members apprecia ted the fact of her coming and the fact that she is still carrying on her job another member who has been greatly missed is our old fnend sam tennant who has been hav ing a rough bout of illness and who is also carrying on in his us ual efficient way sam is out of hospital and able to get around and its good to have you back sam and now as it has been some lit tie time since we ve stuck our neck out we think we 11 go out on a limb regarding our forthcoming hospital it is our firm conviction that the branch should go into this approa ching campaign for funds with bothfeet and give and raise funds for it uh it hurts while we realize that the hospital is a necessity and as soon as possible we feel that too many people are merely inclined to be a bit apath etic about it and willing to let george do it and believe it when we say m this case george is you if you expect a hospital with over four hundred members we are firmly convinced that our donation should be one of the largest if not the largest the membership of the branch should back this project to the hilt both from general funds and by raising money through special projects both the bingo chairman an ardent hospital fan himself and the entertainment chairman showed eagerness to help the members seemed will ing to give and raise the mono it onlj remains to uork out a nous as to augment our funds and to ptidget over a pcrmd -of- time- to that a maximum effort can be made and we should hate to think if a retain ci small group 50odd can come out and promise to raise 25 000 dollars for this project that a large well to do organiz ation such as the legion with al most ten times the membership should be found lacking in com munity spirit indeed in the wel fare of the district and as one last thought wed like you to think of the last time someone in your family or a friend had to be rushed as an emergen cy case to a hospital some twenty five miles away or the time you had to take the wife out of jown when she tad mosrinconverr ienuy decided to have a baby at four thirty on a cold february mor ning and the car wouldnt start and you couldn t locate a cab or in the last extremity and be lieve me we can vouch for this one when you re in a car crash i about four bodies lying about and the closest hospital that can treat you is twenty miles away then is the time you really realise the value of a hospital right at home so how about digesting the above and when the campaign for funds for the georgetown hospital starts let see branch 120 nght up at the top of the list with the biggest and best effort in the community because after all it s only through really worthwhile ach levements that any organisation legion included can justify the respect and liking of his fellow citizens and while vcre still thinking of spending money we would judge that costs are soaring in the fireworks business too by the number of displas that were cut down in this ears displa next should think that there will hac to be cither an increase in amount spent on the displaj 500 at present or shop around and see if there is an other place we can gel more for our mone something we doubt very much we should also like to see the power that be in legion and the council give some thought to going over to an all
