john ghnn of geor gctown was among the 275 secon dary school teachers who attended an intensive two week rammer school at lawrence park collegiate toronto the course which end od julv 10th was the fifth con secutive summer school sponsored bv the ontario secondarv schoo teachers federation for its mem ber in age the teachers ran from 25 to 50 thev oluntanlv switched roles to become students again in order to improve their professional qualifications the course is part of the vear round program of pro fessional development sponsored bv the ft delation living expenses plus a fee are paid ed that the roads branch had rev ersed its decision and would not allow subsidv tuesda s meeting was called to discuss this and ag am there was a change of heart it now seems established according to information relajed at mon dav s cogncil meeting bv the town engineer and the mavor that sur facing can proceed with the engm eer entrusted to add gravel where necessarv to build a suitable road bed according to mr bhgh in some places there is 18 inches of gravel and he will regrade thus down using excess gravel in some of the slacker parts of the roads major armstrong said he is cm tical of the departments action in leaving council on a limb by chan ging opinion after a contract was let the department he said clai med that complaints had been re ceived about the roads but would not divulge the source cr era hyde who has been an outspoken critic of surfacing -es- sed for clarification of this from the government last week i felt the depart ment had fallen m line with the argument i ve been putting up for sev eral weeks and it would ap pear that council might think i was the one who had complained at no time have i ever been in touch w th the department per haps it was something i said which was reported in the press and i suggest we write and ask who re gislered the complaint council decided to do this mr hvde said he does not op pose keeping the roads in shape but he cannot
