georgetown herald a thomson niwspapiks limited putlication serving tha communitlai of georgalowrf glen williams norval limehouta hornby slawarttown ballinafad ashgrova terra cotta thursday june 8th 1961 editorial comment rumours jsfot true f a rumour that the herald wilt close its printing plant and maintain only a sales office in georgetown has been going the local rounds the rumour is perhaps a logical dev elopment of recent hews that the times and conservator in brampton would become a daily some time soon someone got the idea thai this would mean a combination of the two papers the ttory began to spread and more thaoone reader ha enquired about the heralds future we can say unequivocally that there is no truth whatsoever in the rumour the only association between the brampton and georgetown weeklies is in their ownership by the thomson firm each is a business entity setting its news and editorial policies engaging its own staff and operating as an autono mous business within the framework of a larger firm which benefits the business by providing equipment and ad viae not avail able to a sole proprietorship since the thomson firm purchased the herald over two years ago seven of the then staff of eight are still at their jobs one employee left for a pos tion with another firtand two new staffers have increased the payroll to len the thomson firm has a large invest nient in georgetown and as a company jnterested in operating daily newspapers looks to the day when the herald will be a daily also in the yeais between it will continue lo serve as a bright independent weekly as good as a dedicated slaff can make it bright addition to education and ice by bill smiley an immediate project is mind the formation of a amejle conservative men s club wilh one purpoac in view getting omen out of our hair and back still has thorns one of the best features of a growing town is the increased educational facilities which can be offered those who remember the old high school which outlived its original useful ness architecturally long before its demise are constantly impressed with the hand some new school with bright classrooms a large gymnatonum fine laboratories and attractive grounds as teaching staff increases more spe cialists have joined the staff lo provide a higher standard of education than a small town school can afford and now comes the wonderful news that in another year a full technical course will be available for young men and wo men who do nol wish a full academic five years feather in ghs cap a 191 point sweep of the four school track and field meet which included 21 new records was a red letter day for geor getown high school the athletic teaching staff is to be congratulated on a splendid ob of coach ing while the
