the boys are to be congratulated on their get ting it done we understand the whole effort was by volunteer labour and they can well be proud of the job done sun june 11 was the official presentation by the legions in zone b7 of the organ to hallo n centennial manor a parade preceded it from milton branch and ended with service and official presenta tion in the chapel at the manor a busload attended from town and everyone reports an excel lent time the organ was the brainchild of our old friend stan allen who organized the idea among the branches it was certainly a wonderful idea general meeting on the 22nd of june will be the last for the summer lets see a good at tendance where else do you get air conditioned comfort the convention to be held in hamilton this year will be along before you know it it starts the first week in august have you heard the woeful tale being told by one of the members about his flower pick lng- episode seems he climbed a fence trespassing too no doubt to get some lilacs for the little woman falls and sprains an ankle he is helped home and gets medical treat ment then the head of the house arrives in with yea you ve guessed it her arms full of lilacs so we close the cur tain on what must have been a painful tnnf naturally having been assocta ted wilh the hospital we were extremely proud of the donation given to the fund and even more are we proud of the way it has been raised no prolonged arguments no bickering but just a joint effort to pay t u and to aeirt it as a debt of hon our originally scheduled to be paid over a five year period 4 000 was paid off seven months after the pledge was made and there ts now slightly in excess of s3 000 in the fund once more bringing it to a total of 7 000 and leaving a balance of 3 000 so we judge that it will be paid off entirely within ano ther year thereby saung hospital additional money by eliminating carrying charges on the money borrowed on the strength of the legion pledge there is no other single erg an nation or group of organizations that can rnaich the legion here or elsewhere as fund raisers earlier date set for georgetown fair umteds baptists plan church vacation school answer is in the fact that the citizens of the town have come to rely on the help financially and otherwise that is always forthcoming in a worthwhile effort naturally at the time the do nation was given minor opposi t on was encountered to such a large undertaking but the very group who opposed were the first ones to support it by sell lng tickets and as the past dominion president rev dean anderson has said and we have repeated in this column before the legion has two roads either they can go in community ser vice ever striving to improve ever setting new objectives or they can follow the other way that of stagnating and sitting in their rooms dwelling in the past fighting over old battles and deploring the present and with the new paint job and fterw floor the place has really improved its looks 100 and we hope that it will attract ma ny members down the odd night with air conditioning nice aurroundingi and all the recreational facilities in the world branch 120 is one of the finest spots you 11 find where last saturday s hospital op ening was successful and are sure all legion members must be proud of the name plate that records donated by branch 120 canadian legion that is on the door to the main offices just off the lobby this records the gift of 10 000 to the hospital fund a gift that certainly helped swell the fund to our mind the legion can only base its continued exist ence on this type of community work with uie day past where the vets group had to continual ly fight to receive even a small pension we feel that the legion has to play an increasingly big part in the community no ion ger at thirty years ago arc the rights of veterans ignored and so to continue to hold a rcspec ted place in the life of our country we must turn io other projects and other good works future until at last the group ends in oblivion since those words were written some 7 or s years ago there has been terrific upsurge in community effort in our branches through out the length and breadth of this nation today it is accepted fact that everywhere there is a legion branch then there can be found a group who lead in community effort and that s the way it should be and may it ever continue wonder what tasly morsel hawei will have cooked up for the meeting thursday night it s getting to you can t afford to miss a meeting or you miss a treat but as one of the
