r vary of the louoding of the kinsmen auociation we hope that during the celebration of nat ion kin week we will be hbe to tell you the public just how proud we are ai a young club both in years oi ser vice to our town and in the age of our members oi our record to our town and of course our entire association of kinsmen club we kin belong lo an allcanadian service organ ization which was tvpecuieally formed to promote fellow ship twtween young men while providing a service to the community in which we live the first kinsmen club was formed 5 years ao in hamilton by a young man named hal rogers from that inauspicious birth in chinese restaurant the asso ciation of kinsmen has grown until with a present maot- tutkhip of over 13000 member in over 400 cluha all scrota canada we kinsmen oi georgetown are eight years old the kinsmen of he oakville club were instrumental in forming an orgamulion here along with clare hums our charter president and twentyone other young nen in town and with the astisunce and guidance from oak ville the kinsmen club of georgetown waa chartered st a meeting in the fischer hotel in guelph since then we have enjoyed much kin and fel lowship working at our service project which started off with the purchase and installation of playground equipment at the swimming pool since then we have donated to the hospital built and equipped a parkette playground conducted canvasses for the retarded chil dren anil march of dimes donated to the legion poppy fund 1ort alhernj bc and springhill ns dtiaitr r funds and minor hockey we have banded together with the legion lions and ilotary to provide a merry christmas for many famlliea who require assistance at christmas time plus helping needy families when we have been called on and last but certainly not least we kinsmen and our kinetics have for two years sponsored and operated the kinsmen minor girls softball league where we try diligently to make some 300 girls from 11 to 10 yeara of age into future uabe ruths to finance all thii service work we oi court need an income this income in the last 8 yeara totals more than 13000 which haa been spent on the aforemen tioned projects this income has been derived from our annual 10 dinners our christmas tree and mixed nut salry plus our yearly tall fair hot dog booth and various umthrratitu carnivals tag daya house trailer raffle we still remember very clearly but we dont mention it very often that we held several monster bingo nltea at the arena our anticipated profits from these bingo games appeared in the wrong column of the ledger and written in red ink rather than black our service work goes on but its riot all work one of our basic reasons for our existence is the fellow ship or klnsmanshlp we have the pleasure of meeting every other uooday igu for our dinner and buineia hie mings at stans hrltaurant at 6ju hi jurint the dinner portion of our meeting that we have the fun and hi- j inks and during the buiinei we buckle down to dit- ruu and decide bow ht we can be i4 service to our community our meetings of course provide a chance for us to meet our fellow kin but the meetings also provide n excellent opportunity for the members to gam ufcf- ataurance snd poise by standing and speaking in front of a group of men by learning how to conduct meet ing and lrping to a certain degree parlumentary procedure hrrtion lime for kinsmen like everywhere eli la a big time campaigns slogans signs and the uuil chest thutitpings abound the similarity with politics elections ends there it is good natured tun and the good of our club and our community is our prime con cern we kinsmen are proud to sdvcrtie our town and our country worldwide we do so by belonging to the world council of young liens service club we regu larly communicate with the round table clutw in the uk kurope ami south africa the apex clubs in aus tralia and new zealand and the activa 2030 clubs in the usa our club bulleun which we call the kinews snd it printed before every meeting is sent to every club member plus many are exchanged with other kin clubs all across canada and are tent to our world council clubs around the world two and a half years ago we filmed and taped ona of our dinner meetings and sent this to numerous apet clubs in auatraits and round tabic clubs in south africa as we itsted
