iode in sberatonconnaught hotel in hamilton last week the private members bill of halton mpp george kerr which called for a govenuneqt study of automobile insurance costs was talked out in the legislat ure thursday mr kerrs bill received the strong support of speakers from all parties in the house and the halton member did not appear too disheartened with the out come he told the newsmen follow ing the sitting that be hoped the meat of the bill would be studied quietly by the depart ment of transport and that that department would bring about the desired changes house in order specifically mr kerr urged the insurance industry to put its house in order and to co operate with those who sym pathize with some of their prob lems his bill stressed his concern for the spiralling costs of auto repairs and their effect on the rising cost of car insurance mr kerr also stated that it is doubtful m the increase in repair shops and skilled repair men is keeping up with the in crease in the motor vehicle registration in ontario and the increasing numbers of vehicles requiring repair he emphasized that the pur pose of his resolution was not to carry an a tirade against the insurance companies or debate whether or not automo bile insurance rates are unjusti fiably or unreasonably high he did however begin with the premise that the automo bile insurance rates are high and continue to rise safer cars he noted the recent debate over safecar designs and com mented that he feels safer cars will cut the cost of automobile parts and repairs it has been claimed be said that cars are deliberately de signed in order to insure a buil in high profit for parts he said that an insurnce man in his riding in halton has in formed him that if one purchas ed a 53500 car piece by
