so many dead and dying trees through the tncl many farmers in the community have been very busy trying to keep up with cutting down the dead trees on their property the best cont rol of the elm disease is to cut down the affected trees and burn the wood but when one sees so many dead trees every where it seems almost an impos sible task however to beauti fy our country for our centen u nial years that mrs mclean the new teacher at norval public school had taught previous to coming to norval it should have read two years instead of 12 years she taught at bur lington before coming to nor vat should province shoulder more of education costs a resolution presented to council from the town of thor old requesting the provincial government to take over 80 of the costs of education spark ed a lively discussion at coun cil monday mght cr hyde contended that the money all came from the peo ple anyway and that industrial- ized towns would be subsidizing rural areas if control of edu cation is taken out of municipal ities the province can build gold plated schools anywhere they want them and well pay for them he pointed out that industrialized towns would pay for schools in completely resid ential areas where they don t have to put up with smells from industry cr harrison took the appos ite view suggesting that high realty taxes were forcing older people on pensions to sell their homes and move into apart ments or homes for the aged supporting cr harrison cr smith contended it would be fairer to have everyone pay to ward schools not just landown ere mayor gibbons closed off the debate by pointing out that the plunkett report would probably recommend some form of reg ionai government anyway thet resolution was never en dorsed okay water relocations apartment a step closer after two weeks of debating the issue council okayed the relocation of water services to the gilmore boat building on john street providing the own r mr albert euteneier paid the costs mr euteneier told council he bought the building and quired a building permit feb 28th i got the permit in good faith and went ahead and spent money on the build ing i need the water services and the whole issue cleared up so i can dose in the building before winter i would like c be assured i have a legal per mil tthink mr euteneier has been led down the garden path commented deputy reeve young he bought it in good faith thinking be could build an apartment as he bad been ad vised if we decide he can t go ahead the corporation will have to reimburse him for his penses cr ballentine claimed he was under the impression the engin wfwaa rappowd t r o this i feel well have to re- sone the area from r3 to iu and i hope the planning board will recommend this cr w emmerson agreed with mr ballentine adding at the same time a npresen tative of the planning board ap peared be gave the impression be was not opposed bat simply wanted to know about the suing of the permit cr hyde contended the re location of the water services completely paid for by mr euteneier was a separate issue from rezomng which was the planning boards affair the mayor felt it was more important to mr euteneier to know where he stands on con tinulng his building he should apply to the planning board for rezoning he advised how can a permit be issued without checking our bylaw demanded cr harrison if if was good february 28th then its good now have we regula tions for one name and no an other why hasn t the issuer been asked these questions there has been no stop order from this council and there is no reason mr euteneier can not go ahead concluded cr harrison in this case the council should have issued the permit claimed the mayor noone else if he went to a lawyei morrow he rould tell him he can go ahead and iild since the town issued him a permit commented deputy reeve young after all the discussion the motion to relocate the water services wis passed p mr g burges spent sever il days visiting relatives in
