mentioned j briefly the fact that 120 were having an eliminatinn 10 din- ncr the proceeds f which will go to defray the cost of the na tional veterans week by pro- reeding with the project it is hoped that both the dinner and the nvw will be self support ing thus it will be unnecessary to go to the branch colters for funds as well as some excellent en tertainment and a chance to win 51000 there will be a pke for every tenth ucvel drawn which in itself we feel is quite an added attraction during the last three or four years there has been much cri- iticism from some of the mem bership regarding the saturday night entertainment some have the opinion that the auditorium should be utilized for these oc casions however with the bingo being a regular feature on saturday evenings this has not been possible this year the executive have been informed that owing to overlapping vac ations mr bingo alex taylor will have to cancel three satur day night bingos on their toes the ways and means com- mittee being as ever right onj their toes have booked these three nights to entertain the members and friends in the auditorium there has been good entertainment engaged for these nights now the powers that be await the result of these three nights to ascertain whether or not the criticism of the past was justified the evenings booked are august 19th 26th and september 2nd when danc ing singalong or jusl silting ar- ound will be for everyone to en joy something your president wishes for us to mention in these notes for the members to i keep in mind is the date of the fall fair road slated for hornby a diversion road to divert intersection the heavy traffic using trafal gar road off the base tine in the hornby area will soon be a reality property is presently being purchased in north oakville and the southern portion of ksquesing township for the hornby east diversion that will alleviate traffic and safe ty problems on the narrow base line between the point where the seventh line of es- nuesing and oakville trafal gar road presently intersect it construction is slated to be gin next summer according to roads superintendent d j cor- betl the project is expected to be an expensive one hund reds of thousands mr cor- bctt suggests the road will lake north bound trafalgar road traffic straight north over the base line intersection then curve slightly westerly and rejoin the esqpeslng seventh line in the centre of lot 3 the h d macpherson property it would eliminate a danger ous left turn at the present hornby east intersection where northbound vehicle must cross a line of eastbound basr line traffic where the base line motorists view is hampered by a rise jn the level of the land also a right hand at the present hornby west intersection i similarly southbound sev enth line traffic will take the diversion road from lot 3 in efqueslng curving easterly to the trafalgar road eliminating a left turn at the hornby west comer and a right curve at trafalgar road mr corbett said- the scheme has been in the planning stages for several yean now it is one of the priority project in the countys present fiveyear plan of road inrprovements partly due to he rash of accidents at the base line trafalgar road about one mile of new road will be built with a 24 foot pavement and 12 foot should er on each side agents are presently negotiating for a 100 foot rightofway from several landowners involved the land costs are expected to be a ma jor share of the projects cost although mr corbett declined to release a total cost figure because some of the estimates are still being prepared the engineer said the traffic pattern in the area showed predominance of northsouth traffic at the intersection recently a halton coroners jury requested improvements be made at the hornby east corner following a fatality in volving a car and a truck one of the vehicles came over hill on the base line and slam med broadside into the other vehicle which was making a left turn to go south on trafal gar road due to the restricted visibility many visits visitors hornby summer scene mrs bob ross and her two granddaughters carol and dar- lene leslie spent
