centennial project the president mrs a m suth erlapd told tbejierald during wartime sewing was primarily done for armed fore es but in peacetime it is done to hep disaster victims all over the world she said this year there was a request lor clothes for victims of viet nam and the war in the middle east so the demand at presnt is for tropical clothing for a start we have placed an order for two piece summer dresses sleeveless dresses and shorts said mrs sutherland we also included a small order for layettes these come cut otlt with sewing instructions mat enals thread buttons etc supplied the georgetown branch is required to return the finished articles by june 1968 however they would like these complet ed as early in the year as pos sible so they can prepare them for shipment we john t armstrong and mrs arm strong mr and mrs bus hale the chairman and mrs clark mayor and mrs jos gibbons rev kelvin and mrs johnston ladies auxiliary president mrs jean lockhurst and gor don reid district com david capperauld and mrs capper uld were present at the dinner also presentations were made tc a twenty five year member bud hill and a special prcsen tation to dorothy stone of a silver pin for her fine work each year in looking after the book of remembrance both presentations were gi ven bj president bowman the ladies president jean iflckhurst then made a magni ficent presentation of two che ques each for 1 000 one car marked for the kitchen renova tions and the other 1 000 giv en o the branch building fund the toast to the canadian legion was made by mayor jo seph gibbons and he eloquent ly paid tribute to the work of the legion wliich has helped the community so very much down through the years the toast to the fallen lom rades was given by the cha r i man and last post and reveille i were played beauifully by joe wilcox as the lights were dim med and the familiar word they shall no grow old as we that arc left grow old time shall not weary them nor i the years condemn at the going down of the sun and ir the morning we shall remcni ber them brought back many poignant memories to fiucst table was paid to legion widows and also to mothers of boys who had made the su preme sacrifice the ladies were asked to stand hnefl and received the crowd s applause the speaker jack armstrong gave an extremely thoughtpro voking and interesting address when he spoke on the subject quality interspersed with humour it held the audience absorbed end left them with a number of challenging thoughts he was very ably thanked for his remarks by district com mandcr towards expenses for a trip hiring a bus etc to be taken sometime before the end of the school year by holding ab out one sale a month it is hoped to hae enough profit from these sales for each of the 3 rooms to enjoy a trip mrs jrred fendlcy and mrs s fish burn were in charge of tnc ale the 4th meeting of norvil sleepyheads was held on tues day evening october 24th at the home of mrs bob may for
