in the hos pital with a project of this magnitude a great deal of mo ney has to be raised but the girls as always arc doing a tremendous job just one more reason why everyone in the community can be very grateful for this wonderful group who are doing so much for the hospital and through it for the whole com rounity and we think this would be an excellent time remind everyone to be sure and attend the annual event of the year the highly successful hos pital dance this year riviera o last thursday night at the board meeting it was decided to hire an architect tor prelim inary plans for the addition to the hospital mr langlcy of the firm who were the original architects had been present with an associate at a previous mee ting and has discussed the pro posed addition at some length o we should like to thank mr h gorring a former town res ident or his recent donation as well as niagara finance for another donation as well also mr bob barber head of the georgetown horticultural soc jety for the very fine donation to mark centennial year of the flowering crab trees and peony and lily roots mr john schenk has planted the trees adjacnt to the drive and will further enhance the beautiful grounds in which mr scherjc takes such such justifiable pride o the medical staff are rather anxious to add a piece of new equipment to their xray dep artment this is a film proces- aor for the xray room and is considered a most by the med leal staff it would help speed work in the departments well as being much more effic ient and eliminating the tending mesa in the x ray de partment that is at present un avoidable these machines are for the rapid processing and drying of films automatically and are in used at practically all large and many of the small hospitals in ontario the present method of pro cessing films is that the films are placed is a metal hanger which is then put into the de veloper fty a period of 4 to 5 minutes then is transferred to the oxer for a period of at least 10 minutes and then is placed in the wash water for a period of 30 minutes this is followed by a transferring to the dryer for 20 to 30 minutes after which the hanger is removtd from the film the film corners are cut and the film u placed in a lar ge envelope it is then available for reading a se of sinuese and a chest 7 views will occupy a technic ian for a total of 1015 minutes for the examination and anotn er 1013 mmntes to unload hand process and check wet films half of the processing time can be eliminated if an automatic processor with an au tomatic feed is used with the automatic processor the film is not put in a hanger but is inserted into the receiv ing end of the machine just as it comes from the cassette and then in from 90 sec to 7 rain dependmg on the type of mach ine installed the film is ejected from the opposite end of the processor completely dry and ready to be interpreted l the advantages of this tnach ine are multiple and incl ide the following 1 1 no slop or muss in the dark room 2 no scratches or bending art efacts on the fthns 3 rapid availability of the com pleted film making almost im mediate final interpretation with no more wet film view ing 4 improved quality of films since tune and temperature errors m the dark room are eliminated 5 once the film is inserted in the machine the technician is released for duty elsewhere i in the department rather than being confined to the dark room through the early stage of the processing cycle 6 smce the film is so rapidly available the waiting period for paucou more timy eas be successful
