mr and mrs a kcir and family mrs l jamieson originally the credit river survey submitted by the on tario government suggested a scries of dami along the river for water storage and to prcj vent disastrous floods it is the aim of the credit valley con servation authority to implem ent these plans as funds be come available now that the first dam is un derway thoughts turn to the next set of problems to be faced the flood control projects are of major importance and will take the greater portion of the budget for seme lime to come the showcases of the author ity are its nmltipleuse con servation areas used not only for recreation but to make the public aware of the various phases of conservation as it per- tains to the individual thes parents areas are located at terra cotta bclfountain and the new mon- ora conservation area just north of orangeville on hwy 10 this last named is a joint proj ect of the town of orangeville township of mono and the cv ca last year the authority ac quired almost 200 acres at limehouse west of georgetown and this will be developed in the future jungle stories theme for cub parents night rudyard kiplings jungle stories the basis of the cub program provided the theme for a 5th georgetown cub par ents nite recently the program opened with the jungle clearing in darkness and only a moon visible after an nspection the program contin ued with an abbreviated version of the jungle stories with games at various points to demonstrate or act out parts of he story slides taken at cuboree camps rambles and special ev ents in pack meetings were shown tea and coffee prepared by mrs f peters and mrs h diamond were served to the by sixers personal fitness badges were presented to five cubs the green stage to greg and grant bodnar danny diamond and tom fitmvaurice and bronze stage to douglas colter although not strictly a rec reation area the cvca farm at hillsburgh will show the general public both modern farming methods and farming as it was done before the turn of the century the mcadowvale conservation area 118 acres winding along the river at meadowvale will also be developed in the future much of the northern part of this property is a natural wild life area and will be kept as such the colonial house on the property built originally in i baa been preserved on the outside the inside has been rebult to form offices for chairman mcmillan secretary- treasurer g w bentlcy sup erintendent nj mcmahon and field officer s b white these offices replaced the original headquarters at terra cotta the cvca owns over 2000 acres of land in the watershed much of it covered with trees much of the marginal land in the valley is of no use for any thing else and the authority conducts an annual treeplanting program the aim of the prog ram is to help the private land owner plant marginal acres thus preventing erosion and quick runoff in the spring all these aims of the author ity all the work that has gone into getting as far as the cvca has over the past 12 years has gone for nothing if the future members of municipal provin cial and federal governments the school children of today do not learn a healthy respect for their green areas these young people are interested and the credit valley conserv ation authority intends to pro mote this interest so that future legislation will not undo all the accomplishments completed ibis far ttie personal fitness badge is a multiple stage badge and one of the few earned in cubs which may be worn on the scout uniform the four stages are green bronze silver and gold a petkeeper badge was pres ented to alain pelletier and cub instructor badge to simon perrott here only two weak two western elk dead after only two weeks in on tario two at the five elk brought from alberta to the halton conservation authority game preserve near rattle snake point have died the irst was found dead saturday and the second on sunday of last week dave murray i1rca field officer said one of the elk had suffered a broken neck it is suspected the animal had been running from someone prob ably children and was iikiy laoking backwards when it crashed into a tree mr murray explained many children are climbing the eight foot fence and chasing the elk about the grounds which enc- empaat aoaa v0 seres erf land this is very dangerous and unless people are kept out some one is sure to get kilted a watchman has bean engag ed to keep visitors outside the fence apparently the eh are easily spooked or frightened and children chasing the elk cause them lo suffer from hy pertension the remaining three have been vaccinated and is hoped the two dead elk might be replaced without going to alberta frank timmcnnaus hcra wild life technician and maur ice rcadhead a former works
