cases magnifying the j actual incident out of all pro- portions and this in todays world of mass- communication z may be as it should be f however it is just too bad that the creative and the plus sides of student activities arent as well reported 1 whats this to do with the hospital you say quite a lot when the actual amount of financial aid to the hospital is added up through the efforts of various students and student groups we shall list the var ious groups and individuals la ter but in this column shall deal with their efforts general ly- quite a number of public schoolers raised funds by naz- aars carolling and other activ ities and these donations altho quite modest are the very life- blood of the hospital because it shows a continuing interest especially among the young who of necessity will some day carry the burden of financing and operating the hospital that a member of the board now continuing his studies in reading england will read of this activity with interest we refer of course to our valued members tom beer who is on a sabattical from his position in the science depr of gdhs according to a note we had at christmas time tom wife patricia arjd family arc tnjoying their stay in reading but are looking forward to returning to town at the end of the course especially wed like to men tion the large group of high sdhoolers who tobk the time out to serenade various parts of town with carols just before christmas and collect donations which they gave to the hospi tal the amount was in excess of 300 a rather large amount for this type of project they were adequately supervised by members of the rausic staff and teachers and from the many rather pleasant things we heard about thetractivitics everyone who heard them thoroughly en joyed the impromptu concert altogether we think about 250 teen agcr took part and split into various groups l serenading dist rjcts of flecommunity the evening was not only a financial8ucccss but showed once again that the vast maj ority of our teen agers are ser ious intelligent- citiiens who have a high aet of values and take their responsibilities as cit izens quite seriously thanks once again from tha members of the board incidentally we are sure the annual meeting of the hospital associr ion is now less than two months away and just for once it would be most encouraging to members to see a full house at this annual meeting this year we should like to see the dining room at the hospital full and this so far has been anything but the case bcrship in the associa- a large one because the fact that anyone who contributed more than 50 be came a life member however their interest in the association has been very poor the most prevalent attitude being that it the hospital seems to be oper ating well so why bother a generous attitude no doubt but not too good from the boards point of view anyone may become a mem ber by paying a small yearly fee and applying at the office o the hospital for their card or as we have already said a donation of 50 or over maker you a life member how about giving the matter some thought and being on hand at our annual meeting a good response from existing members of whom there are around 1000 would mean wo would have to move the locale for the meeting to the high school auditorium a change the hospital bdard would find most stimulating did you know backbenchers life is outlined by whiting by donald gosling our programme chairman lion ernie bodnar had a very interesting guest spe last dinner meeting by the name of rud whiting our man in ottawa mr whiting gave an extremely interesting talk on the inside story of a successful nomination and elec tion he also spoke of the life of a backbencher which was quite interesting and informa tive at the last directors meet ing the plans for the east end park we approved fn general by the club directors this now authorizes the park committee to proceed with the plans and finalfee the project many projects are presented at the directors meetings a majority of which do not even get written in the records be cause someone knows of the problems which will probably occur some get to the invest igation committee
